If You Want a Solo Vacation, Just Go, for Criminy Sakes

Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

I'm not quite sure I get what all the hoopla is about when it comes to women traveing solo but then I never have. I recall an incident in the early 1980s when I decided to go all by myself from Orange County, California, to Negril, Jamaica, to a resort I had never been to before. Everybody thought it was very risky and dangerous for a single woman to travel by herself to a foreign country, and they could not fathom why I would want to do it. Even the other real estate agents I worked with were wary and tried to talk me out of it.

Good morning Elizabeth. I got a kick out of this because I hear it still. When there is a place to see I go, no second thoughts or regrets. Traveling solo has many advantages too, and you meet more people. Enjoy the day.

They cautioned you because they care.  With all the evil out there travel for men or women is dangerous regardless of where you go.  Merry Christmas to you

Once one gets a taste of exotic travel, they're easily addicted.

A great addiction to have!

Merry Christmas to each and every one of you, even though for me it was Christmas yesterday, LOL. My husband says the resort probably has me on "suicide watch" because why else would a married woman go by herself to a foreign country to spend Christmas? I never thought of that angle. It's kinda bizarre they would even consider it, but now that he brought it, up I can see it. Actually, I find it hilarious.

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents I went to St. Thomas for a week a few years ago solo, and everyone thought I needed my head examined, and had SUCH a great time.  This year I went to Montreal by myself.   Hope you are having a fabulous time!

As you already know, I travel around by self quite a bit.  I've been to Hawaii alone three times, and loved it.  One of the more interesting solitary trips I made was in 2009 when I traveled the length of Utah's Highway 12, which has 3 national parks (Zion, Bryce and Capital Reef), plus 3 state parks.  It was an absolutely wonderful trip, and although I'm not especially religious, there were spiritual elements to that journey, with odd things which happened along the way.

My dream is to travel to India one day.  I was hooked watching Helen Mirren in "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,"  I could live that life. . .No problem!

It's probably a mutiplied version of the reaction I get to people who are freaked out that I will eat in a restaurant by myself.  Why not?  And the wait staff will tend to linger around and you have to shoo them away to get peace and quiet.  Being alone in a restaurant, or an island, is perfectly fine.

I remember traveling alone for business in my radio network job.  It was nice.  No one with me to tell me what to do with my free time. If I wanted to go to a flea market, I went.  Or if I wanted to have a scenic drive, I did it.  It was awesome.
