Living in Southern California has many perks. The ocean plays at least some part in the lives of all residents of Ventura County communities. We have a deep respect for the ocean and all the creatures who call it home. Whale watching is a popular past time, especially this time of year. If you are in town this weekend, you may want to come to the 2015 Oxnard Celebration of the Whales.
What: 2015 Oxnard Celebration of the Whales
Where: Next to Marine Emporium Landing (3350 S Harbor Blvd)
When: Sunday, March 22 10am to 4pm
Cost: FREE
Contact: Larchmont Farmer's Market (818) 591-8161
The 2015 Oxnard Celebration of the Whales celebrates the northern migration of the Pacific Grey Whale. They migrate down from the north coasts of Alaska between October and February to breed in the warmer waters off of Baja. Then, from February to July, they begin to migrate back up northward to their arctic feeding grounds. This is why whale watching hits its peak in the Oxnard community between now and mid-summer.
At the 2015 Oxnard Celebration of the Whales, guests are invited to enjoy live entertainment while they peruse the Channel Islands Farmer's Market. Learn about marine wildlife, including whales, at the educational exhibits. Sign up for a whale watching excursion. Visit the arts and crafts booths. Several activities will be set up especially for the kids. You may even want to pick up some fresh seafood or BBQ for Sunday dinner.
Bring the family down to the 2015 Oxnard Celebration of the Whales this Sunday at the Marine Emporium Landing. It is going to be a day full of educational fun. You never know. You may even get to see a whale or two while you're there!
