God Made A Dog

This video has been out for a long time. My dog has been gone for some time too. But in honor of my beloved dog who stood by every member of my family's side through good times, and the hardest times of all, I dedicate this video to all animal lovers in the hopes that the video can be preserved for those who need it the most. I pray it keeps going because it hits me right through my heart.

When I watch this video, it brings tears to my eyes and reminds me how good God is to make a dog and put it here on earth. Sometimes, the best thing that can happen to any person or family is to have a loyal companion. Here are some examples of the type of dog I had that were some of the happiest and saddest days of my life. God made a dog just like He made footprints in the sand. If you haven't seen this video, I hope you enjoy it. If you have, please don't complaint about having seen it before. Honor the dogs for they have a higher purpose.

It was just another bitterly cold and snowy day a few days before my husband passed away. He was in the hospital and I was on my way to visit him. My coat dragged to the floor. As I was about to open the front door, my dog climbed inside, underneath my coat. He stood up and wrapped his front paws around my leg. He would not let go. I don't know why I did it, but I took the dog with me to the hospital. Yes! I smuggled him inside and broke the hospital rules. The dog stayed quiet and close to my heart. As soon as I got inside the hospital room, I closed the door and my dog jumped out from under my coat. He jumped on top the hospital bed, and snuggled next to my husband. There he stayed until the next day when we left. Nurses came and they left all night long and pretended they didn't see my dog. 24 hours later, my husband died.

My daughter loved our dog. When she was about eight or nine years old, we didn't allow the dog to jump on top the bed or furniture. One day she wasn't feeling well and stayed in bed sick.  When I checked to see how she was doing, she was sound asleep. Her bed was covered in stuffed animals. Suddenly, my dog sneezed. He was hiding with all the stuffed animals. I pretended I didn't know he was there.

It was an even worse and bitterly cold and freezing day in Lake Villa, IL. I was working at Abbott Laboratories. The date was Martin Luther King's day. My son was off from school; my daughter was already grown up, attending Viterbo University in LaCrosse, WI. My son was at the car dealership waiting for them to finish servicing my car. When he came home. He had an eerie feeling something wasn't right. He opened up the door and the fire caused a combustion. My son called out for the dog, but the dog did not come running. The flames were already spreading but he had to find the dog. He found our dog at the far corner of my daughter's bedroom, hiding underneath her bedspread that he pulled off the bed to save himself from the fire. My son rescued him from our burning house.

For six months, my son and I were homeless. We lived in a hotel until we had a place to live after the house fire. Our dog never barked or growled. He was the most gentle dog you ever knew. His favorite toy was a tiny stuffed animal that he had since he was a puppy. Not one piece of stuffing ever came out that toy. Yet the housekeepers at the hotel were afraid of my dog and would never go inside our room when my son and I weren't there. They said our dog was a holy terror and they were afraid of him. Our Vet said he believed he was protecting us from further harm or misfortunes. He was just the most loyal dog we ever had.

"God Made a Dog. Dog spelled backwards is God!"

Oh, my, this hits so many tearful points for me, Patricia! Your stories of your dog are miraculous to some, but to me, who knows how incredibly sensitive dogs can be, I am not the least bit surprised. That dog was one of your miracleworkers.

I can't watch this (again) because I will cry too much. Our dogs are our WORLD, for Larry and me. We don't have children. they ARE our kids. I tell people over and over again,
"they don't live as long, but we don't have to pay for college"...which draws a smile or a chuckle when comparing them to human kids that people have.

My husband's next door neighbor saved HIS Golden when someone set fire to his house many years before I met him. A media person happened to be there and shot a photo of his neighbor sitting in the front yard, holding an oxygen mask over Tasha's face. She lived to be quite old for a Golden and was alive when I met Larry and started dating him. She and I loved each other.

I'm reading this close to one year after losing my most recent dog to cancer.  I've had three over my life and they certainly were the best parts of my life.  Loyal, protective (sometimes too much so).  My last dog always knew when I was having a bad day and would find me and beg for pets.

  Darn onion cutting ninjas...

Oh Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905 - you understand because you are harmonious with nature and a very good person. I could read your stories and hear your voice and the pain that comes through when animals are abused or hurt and I can feel how elated you are when dogs bring us joy.

To be honest, I never thought of dogs as being miracle workers. But come to think of it, you're absolutely right. Back then, my husband had a medical team trying to save his life. Hospice was just beginning and that didn't work for us because it was still a process that hadn't been perfected. My soul support during that whole process, especially after he was gone, came directly through my dog! He lived a longer life than most dogs. Would it even surprise you to know that 24 hours before I moved to Texas he had a stroke? I was with him when he died. I was about to leave for Texas. My daughter just left for Japan and my son had unfinished business in Illinois and felt he had to grow up on his own without me. He was 10 when his dad died and just 19 when I moved. But he turned out terrific.

OH, GF, I could spend DAYS talking about how perceptive dogs are. I remember one time, my first dog that was MINE as a an adult (I always grew up with dogs and my "oldest sister" was a Boxer one year ahead of my arrival on the scene as the first child)his name was Bruiser sat with me when I was slumped on my front porch, crying my eyes out (I was so lonely at times) and he came and licked my tears away. That moment is still so clear to me. His empathy was magnetic. That was way back in the early 80s. I've had lots of four-legged loves since then, all GREAT for different reasons!

Ryan Huggins - Thousand Oaks, CA - I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. I know you miss him terribly. Cancer is a terrible disease for both animals and humans. My spouse had brain cancer. Dogs know so much more than we give them credit for. I think we forget how intelligent they are. Loyal and protective - you summed them up very well.

Good Morning Gita Bantwal - I'm of the opinion that people think they are adopting pets when in fact many dogs rescue people. I didn't even share how it came to be for this dog to stay in our home. At the time, we didn't have any plans for a pet. I thank God he came into our lives at a period of time that was so critical when we all needed him the most.

Good morning Patricia. OMG, this is so very touching. Through tears I get it. I think that dogs are gifts we give ourselves and mine have always been the magic in my life. Hearing your recollections I think you should have a dog now too to honor your friend who is now gone. No pup can ever replace another but you could save a special one who wouldn't make it without you and enhance your life once again. Beautiful post.

Patricia, as a child we had a dog, but not as an adult. Still the emotion is real and the sentiment is felt. I know of the love a Dog, as much as the love of other pets. Your dog and your story is both heartbreaking and yet beautiful, that shows the true unconditional love of your dog, and that it goes both ways. Your love fostered the love you got back.

Patricia Feager, MBA, GRI, Cert Negotiations Expert, Military Relo Prof I read your post before watching the video (I've seen it before.)  I had tears in my eyes reading about your wonderful dog...the way you snuck him into the hospital...I loved it.   Then I watched the video again.

You're preaching to the choir here But It's Only A Dog.  This is a subject near and dear to my heart.  I can't imagine life without a dog or two or more.
