10 Lessons Learned from Writing Localism Posts
I write localism posts and enjoy doing so. There are some members that choose to not spend time on this and don't want calls unrelated to real estate. Today my phone rang and the caller asked if I had all you can eat crab legs?
I asked who he thought he was calling and he answered a local catfish restaurant. I wrote a post 3 years ago about this restaurant's relocation. It is one of the better restaurants in town and I wanted my readers to be aware of their change in location and new facility. I write localism posts to add variety to my posts and to highlight my area.
There are lessons to be learned in writing these type of posts.
- They do not take the place of good real estate posts.
- They don't replace neighborhood reports or area market reports either.
- They probably will not earn you any real estate business but may get your post seen.
- Your readership may appreciate knowing about local events and places of interest though and be thankful.
- These posts get found on Google and if your number is in the post you will get calls about all kinds of things unrelated to real estate.
- People are searching for information on their mobile devices and do not read the posts. They read titles and look for phone numbers.
- If you want to promote a business, put the business phone number in the post.
- If you are writing purely as a service to your readers and to show you knowledge of the area, include your name and a link to your webpage. I will be leaving my phone number out from this point forward.
- Even when you don't think your posts are being read, they are. My crablegs call is proof.
- This post about the restaurant was 3 years ago and I just now got a call. My real estate posts are being seen too and will live on. It encourages me to know that I will eventually get calls and people will contact me about real estate. This week alone I got 3 contacts from my posts.
Whether or not you choose to write localism posts is up to you. I tend to think the public likes a little variety and I like to mix it up a bit. I will continue writing some localism posts but will beef up the number of neighborhood posts and market posts I write. I will make sure my phone number is easy to find so I will get more calls about real estate.
