Bales of hay

This time of year going by the farms in Northern Dutchess it is not uncommon to come across a farm with fresh bales of  hay.

What's next?  I am always curious to see what crop will replace the hay.  Most of the time at this particular farm it will be some type of vegetable, which will make it's way to a  New York City farm  market.

Bales of hay

One trend I have noticed over the last few years is the purchase of  a home plus acreage with farming on a small scale in mind.

If this is your goal  call or text Jennifer at 845-594-9947 to help secure such a property.

That is a beautiful photo! I love watching the local farmers working their fields and guessing the crops. I hope they are able to keep farming as it is nice to have fewer houses around

Libby I loving trying to guess the crop however I am often wrong :)

In my town the development rights  have been bought up, so the farms will remain as such.

Good morning Jennifer. Always nice to see open spaces now that I reside in the concrete jungle of downtown Chicago. Time for a ride to the country! Enjoy your day!

Hi Jennifer - this is a beautiful picture and Dutchess County is such a rural county close to the big city.

Yes Jennifer, a good observation, crop rotation is an important part of maintaining healthy soils.  Generally the hay crops are the time when the soil recovers, especially with hay crops that are high in legumes like clover and alfalfa.
