... and when I die, and when I die...

By
Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

there'll be one child born, in this world to carry on... to carry on.

There have been a couple of recent conversations going on, here in the rain, about what happens to your Active Rain blog, posts, account in general, if you should shift your mortal coil.

Does someone have access to your account to advise the gen-pop of your demise, or will it just become inactive?  Will all of your posts simply remain in stasis, leaving the Active Rain membership (and all of your friends and family) wondering WTF happened to you?

Do you have a designated writer who'll step in... do you have a plan at all... I know I don't, and haven't really considered it.

Should I put my Active Rain account in my will, and pass it along, with all of my points??

Do you have a plan for when I die... er, I mean for when you die?  Do you?

to carry on.

You know, you guys with this discussion have given me a great idea that I know many would get a kick out of... especially my ex wife.

How about we have the ability to place a BLOG in DRAFT and should we not sign on for a period of time, say 30 days, then the Draft automatically goes live.

What a great way to get the LAST WORD in?

Do I sense a Blood Sweat and Tears reference?

In my mind's eye, it will always be a Laura Nyro reference:

Alan- I think I'm going to come back and haunt everyone.  I'll roam the halls of ActiveRain.  (does it have halls?)  I'll be a ghost writer.

Within, walls continue upright, bricks meet, floors are firm, and doors are sensibly shut. Silence lies steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House. And we who walk here... walk alone.

You are very funny and I have enjoyed reading the comments here - this and the other posts on this subject do raise a great question - how does the AR community know when someone has left this mortal toil - the frequent bloggers would be missed if they suddenly stopped blogging and we would be wondering where they are - literally and figuratively - as they become heavenly bloggers - In some instances someone knows what has happened and can share that but in other cases we are left to wonder and google.

I'm not sure I'd become a heavenly blogger (although I do love the term)... I think I might be a subterranean blogger.

Interesting post and comments...my wife has been gone over 4 years and her facebook lives on, and since I do not have the password it continues for who knows how long. For a while it sent me notifications, which always freaked me out.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and can't imagine what the impact must be for those facebook notifications.

I have had a few recent losses, and can't manage to delete those voicemails that I have.

Good morning Alan May ,

I'm so glad Kathy Streib featured your post in her "Ah-ha" moments for the week! As usual you found a topic of interest and I've enjoyed reading some good comments. I can picture Kathy as a ghost writer!

I've seen the other posts on this subject and find it all really interesting. It's always so sad to hear a member has died....I find myself going to see what their last post was.

I think it's a great idea to have a plan in place.  I guess I should give instructions to my husband and/or daughter on how to write a post on my blog so they can make some kind of announcement.

Sep 26, 2016 12:32 AM
Alan May

I do the same thing... go check their last post... and usually you can find others doing the same, and leaving their condolences.

Here's an idea.... maybe designate a blogging bereavement buddy ..... we could all team up with another Rainer to be the one who, in the event of our death, after receiving the news from our family, announces it here via our blog or theirs.

I have several colleagues who would likely write a "post" about my recent demise.  At least someone would get a decent post about me getting hit by a bus.
