Rodents are a part of the world and have been very good at adapting to the human environment. They like what we provide as habitat but if not controlled can cause expensive and sometimes dangerous situations.
Here is an example, were rodents had chewed through the wire insulation and exposed the conductors creating a potentially dangerous situation.
Here is another example of rodents chewing through wire insulation as well as the water pipe insulation.
The issue is that rodents need to chew and often will on anything they can. Rodents teeth are constantly growing. If they don’t gnaw frequently on things then their teeth can grow so long that they can no longer feed themselves, I have seen this in the wild. So if they do not gnaw they potentially can starve to death.
So rodent-proofing your home is a necessary maintenance item that needs to be performed.
