Going Green! Join In!

With every day that passes, we all see the need for conserving our natural resources.  Light bulbs, timers on our heat or air conditioning systems, keeping that temperature at the correct seasonal setting, planning our driving trips to include better routes to cover more errands on the same trip, using less paper and more.  Life has certainly changed.

Years ago, there were no fax machines.  Contracts needed to be hand delivered to the listing office.  Immediately. Pages were rewritten, in carbon.  Messages were taken down on pads, in carbon, by the office secretary.  There was no voicemail.  The lockboxes were combination or had a metal key to open them.  You paid a small fee, $50.00 for the key.  Only Realtors could purchase and hold them.  Now, everything is online. Lockboxes, contracts, assessor cards, etc.  Even the faxes can be sent and are delivered to email.

I wonder, if we were to return to some of the old tools, would we use less of our world energy?  Has some of the way we are now living, caused us to use too much energy?  Will the laptops and computers of tomorrow use less energy?

Join me and plant a carbon forest tree.  Just another way to help recognize the need for conservation!

It's a Good Life!

It is fun to look back and see how we "used" to do things.

I've recently become "Green Certified", a Coldwell Banker designation. It is amazing some of the new technologies that are helping to reduce our carbon footprint and utilize renewalable resources.

Yes, computers are becoming more energy efficient and I believe are reducing our overall energy usage. LCD's have helped quite a bit. The move to hard drives with no moving parts, will also help.

Bill, no kidding:)

Geoff, Yes, NAR and our state association of Realtors offer the course, too.   Good to stay current with the issues.

Gita, Me, too!  I remember meeting in a parking lot during a snowstorm for final initials!  Mileage on our cars has certainly been less.

Going green is definitely the catch phrase. I've been recycling bottles and papers for years.  Lately, I have been "making my trips work for me" as Brian says by lumping my errands together.  I've also started bringing reusalbe bags to the grocery store so that I'm not getting the plastic ones.   Every little bit helps.

Hi Frances,

You make a good point but I buy all of my electricity from renewable sources, and it only has been averaging an extra $9.20/mo to my bill and since I can't afford solar at the moment it is a great alternative.

Good for you, Joseph!  Every person who makes a small change, will end up making a big difference")  I know that the government, not sure if it is our state or the federal level of government, but, they do offer a tax break incentive for us to go solar!

Great post Frances,

We have just started recycling here at the office!  You would be amazed at how much paper gets thrown away!  We also ordered reusable going green grocery bags to give away to clients with our office information with the caption that says" Your sale is in the bag with RE/MAX! " And then our office name, phone number and website, they ended up being $1.75 a piece which is cheap for a popby!
