You're Gonna Love Poi Dog Deli in Kailua-Kona

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

Supporting local businesses is important to me regardless of where I may be in the world. If there is a way to buy a local product, that's what I will do. Just the way I am wired. So, even though I knew that Poi Dog Deli was opened earlier this spring, I could not manage to make it over there. Big mistake. Wish I had gone sooner.

Yesterday, as I sat out on our lanai chatting with my husband and a friend, it dawned on me I was suddenly starving to death. Not to mention, I had not yet picked up a sandwich for my fishing trip today.

I am publishing this at 6 AM but that's because I am required to be at Honokohau Harbor at the ungodly hour of 5 AM. Five o'clock on the morning is a time to be sitting half asleep on my lanai doing a blog and drinking coffee. Not climbing aboard a boat.

You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: Hawaii Finches and Visit to Poi Dog Deli.

Hi Elizabeth... those Java Finches were quite cute. I had finches once... but found that birds and bird cages were just too dirty for my taste. I think I added an inch to my waistline reading about the chips!

Hi Elizabeth- Larry would love this place because he loves pickles!!! When we used to go out diving and fishing, early in the morning, we took bagels. Loved the photo of the birds and so glad you identified the Java Finch. I miss some of the birds I saw on our deck when we lived in Leesburg, VA.

What a cool name for a deli, Elizabeth.  And, I agree that it is important to support our local businesses!

It looks like another type of finch on the right side of the photo. The one with a red head. Or is that just a male version of a Java Finch?

Nina Hollander I caught a pair of finches once and kept them outside overnight in a new cage, but they were too unhappy, flitting about. They were meant to be wild, so I let them go.

Kathy Streib I have a burning desire to know my surroundings, the vegetation, names of trees and all wildlife within my sight. Makes me appreciate nature ten times more. I know, it's weird, not everybody is affilicted with this passion to identify and relate. I probably have a screw loose somewhere.

Sheila Anderson Yes, glad to see you feel the same about supporting local businesses. They are here for our convenience, and hopefully to make a buck, to provide a good living for their family. If we fail to support them, they won't be here, and that infrastucture collapse could be felt all the way down the line.

Myrl Jeffcoat I thought at first Poi Dog Deli was a place where you buy artisan dog biscuits.

Libby Cousins If there is a small red-headed bird, it is a Hawaii red-crested cardinal. We have several types of cardinals. Some are all red like those in California.
