Grateful for the opportunity to serve on the NAHB Executive Committee

ActiveRain Ambassador Debbie Reynolds has challenged member bloggers to write up to ten blogs before Thanksgiving expressing our gratitude for special moments, big or small,  in our lives. Hopefully, this challenge will make all us us recall some special times.

I am grateful that I had the opportunity to serve on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Home Builders. I had served on the Board of Directors of the Tidewater Builders Association  and was the president in 1972 and had served on the Board of Directors of the Home Builders Association of Virginia and had been a life member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Home Builders for many years when Frederick J. Napolitano was elected as the president of NAHB in 1982. He invited me to serve on the Executive Committee during his term.

It was a learning experience to meet with building industry leaders from around the country. And, Dolores enjoyed traveling with me to Executive Committee meetings and Board of Directors meetings in very interesting locations. She was sometimes on the golf courses when I was in meetings.

My relationships with building industry leaders led to many business opportunities and some of the most interesting ventures during my career.

This is my fourth blog post in this challenge. I hope you have read the previous posts.

Well Roy Kelley You never cease to amaze. I had no idea about your home builder background.

We really could use more "insight" from you on home building in general and the housing shortage.

And the dahlia is beautiful.

Yes, I'm with the rest, the Builder's board was lucky to have you. Although, I can certainly see why it would prove to be very valuable to you as a Real Estate professional. Great group to be a part of when you sell houses.

Although serving on a board can come with responsibility, there is also much to be learned in the process.  And, a lot can be gained for the community, when the board performs well.

You can help folks stay informed during an emergency. During difficult weather or emergencies, check on your neighbors, especially those who may need assistance. All it takes is a phone call, text message, or a knock on the door to make sure neighbors are doing okay
