In just a couple of days, millions of families get together to give thanks for their blessings. So many people lost their homes in the wildfires consuming California land up and down our state recently. This really puts the holidays and what we should be thankful for into perspective this year. Ventura Holiday Tree Lighting 2018
Almost 140 years ago, two Norfolk pine trees were planted at the San Buenaventura Mission. Some say that these trees were donated by a local family. Others believe they were planted to be used at a later date for a captain's mast. Whatever the case may be, these trees grew to become a local landmark. In fact, you can see them from downtown Ventura as well as the 101 freeway. And in 2000, they became "Millenial Trees" according to the State of California. For the past 80 years, they've lit up for the holidays as well as other special days at various times throughout the year. At the Ventura Holiday Tree Lighting 2018, they feature brand new lights.
Not to be outdone, a special fig tree in Mission Park joins the celebration. For the first time ever, this fig tree shows off its lights at the Ventura Holiday Tree Lighting 2018 in conjunction with its two pine tree brethren. Before and after the festivities, guests get to enjoy traditional holiday music, inflatables to play on, dozens of kids activities, and even some snow! The tree itself officially lights up at 6:45 pm. Even Santa promises to stop by for a visit. When you get hungry, pick up something tasty at one of the food booths.
Come out to celebrate the season. Bring your family to the Ventura Holiday Tree Lighting 2018 ceremony. It promises to be lots of fun for everyone.
