Los Angeles' second downtown is Century City...

Los Angeles' second downtown is Century City... most of you who read my blog posts regularly will recall that I have been saying over the past who knows how many years that there are two Downtowns in Los Angeles. One is the real downtown and the other is Century City, which is neighboring to Beverly Hills, West Los Angeles and Brentwood to name a few.

So with that said let me share some interesting data:

Chart2

As you can see there are a great many Renters, this brings up another question: why are there so many renters? Part of it is because UCLA as in the University of Southern California is part of Century City Westwood. This of course creates a huge rental populations in and around the Campus.

Then in turn Century City is Beverly Hills adjacent and many of those who work in Beverly Hills but do not need to live in Beverly Hills since they do not have school aged kids end up renting in Century City.

So let us look at a few other demographic statistics. My favorite of course is the Weather:

Climate and Weather
The Temperature chart displays average high and low values for January and July, and is designed to provide an indication of both seasonal and daily temperature variability. The Weather Risk Index indicates the calculated risk of each type of weather event occurring in the future. This risk is based on historical localized storm events and weather patterns. The national average for each type of weather event equals a score of 100, so a score of 200 would represent twice the risk as the national average, and a score of 50 would represent half the risk of the national average.

Needless to say I mentioned that UCLA is in this demographics, clearly that would explain the age demographics figures in the Century City/ Westwood statistics. Well see bellow...

Hi Endre Barath, Jr. - I completely agree with your analogy of a second "downtown".  Before Century City developed, I would say that designation went to the Wilshire district corridor.  Back in the 70's my husband was a UPS driver in Cheviot Hills. Actually he was the only driver. We spent a lot of time in that area and Santa Monica on different weekends.  Of course this was before traffic added about 2 hours to the drive!

Endre,

Century City has been a favorite stomping ground of ours since its opening.  We worked with the first developer, and watched the progress and change of ownership throught the years.  I still like stopping there when we are in town.  A

My recollection of Century City was massive buildings, lots of cement and shopping, but then I haven't been there since the 1980s.

Well, who really knew, Endre?!!!

Very interesting that the population is so heavily millennials but, it makes sense being in the UCLA area. And, those 'younguns' surely do enjoy a wonderful climate while living there. I wonder how many of them wind up staying in the area after graduation?

Happy Sunday!
