Wasn't sure if it was a joke until Grace called me from the airport to say she was here. She wanted to see as many houses as I could set up. She wanted to start tomorrow and could I pick her up at the hotel
Grace was from a TV show called Home Team. We needed to find a house that needed a little work. Some updating and could be vacant. We started our journey the next day. We hit it off right away. Grace knew exactly what she was looking for.
It had to be great for the TV cameras shoots. Need work but the bones had to be good. Heater roof plumbing the real expensive stuff had to good. The other stuff we were going to get local people to donate their time and some of their merchandise to freshen up these houses. In return they would get free advertising on TV she explained.
We found one house she liked until I took her to a condo on State rd called Rivers Bend. It was on the second floor with a loft. It was in the price range. The lighting was perfect. The location was even better. She called her boss sent him pictures. This was the one.
In the meantime, I asked her if she had a buyer for the show. The answer was no. My heart started to pound. She had told me they did this for special people. Buyers with a story I explained to her I thought I had the perfect special buyer. Someone with a story
My sons best friend had cancer he was looking for a house. He was in remission and one day he was in a tragic car accident. They had to cut him out of the car. He was in an induced coma for almost a month and it was touch and go. He was a fighter and he survived. While in the hospital he met a nurse and they fell in love.
It was his dream to own his own home. Now he was looking for a place. Grace wanted his families phone number as it had to be surprised. John and my son Eric were best friends and he got me his Mom's phone number.
Grace called and met with the family it was set. His Mom could not believe it. His family was so grateful. I was amazed at how many people were willing to give. I talked to Bud Gabriel he would do the appraisal and Diane Flarety from All Service Abstract was doing the Title Insurance Diamond Furniture was giving Furniture so many other people gave their time and services including friends and family even mortgage companies waved fees where they could.
This was one of the first posts I ever wrote on Active Rain in 2009 here is a link with pictures and more information about John and Home Team every now and then the show is on TV I do have a DVD of the show and it always warms my heart and breaks it too
John was 25 years old when he moved into his home.
He passed away two years later at the age of 27 years young
Learned there are so many good people in this world willing to give when given the chance
