As activist Erin Brockovich tweeted, "The 20th century was about oil but the 21st century will be about water."
Flint, Michigan is still trying to get clean water to people. It happened in Weed, Calif., too. Recently in Southern Calif. Crystal Geyser was found illegally dumping arsenic water. Here is the Dept. of Justice ruling from July 2018 on it. Combined with the drought in Western Washington, giving Lewis County, Washington's public water for free to Crystal Geyser makes no sense.
Please consider writing the Lewis County commissioners to stop Crystal Geyser in Randle, Lewis County, Wash. at https://lewiscountywa.gov/offices/commissioners/contact-commissioners/.
In this poor, mostly rural part of Washington state, Crystal Geyser is seeking to steal and sell public water-one of the few public resources most renters and homeowners currently access for free. They propose building a water-bottling plant to produce on the Cowlitz River in the small town of Randle, in Lewis County. At least 100 semi trucks per day will be using a small two-lane road. Not to mention there are no plans submitted for water planning, mitigation, drought, etc.
Many people in this area are living below or near the poverty level. One thing they DO have is free access to their own wells of water. It is easily predictable that this huge theft will negatively impact the water table, drying out wells, and creating higher fire danger situations due to lack of water.
My family homesteaded land in Randle as pioneers. I and other family members still own and love the land, wildlife, trees and water here. I live in Silicon Valley but my heart is here. NO is the answer to a water bottling plant that seeks to steal public water to sell privately for profit. Especially to sell it in non-sustainable ways (single-use bottles).
