- Impeachment -
A Glimpse At The Process
In Atlanta Buckhead Midtown, one often hears the word "Impeachment". A non-partisan definiton comes in handy. In a short video posted below, "Office Hours" host, Ron Elving explains and according to the comments - he does a laudable job on the topic.
What exactly does 'Impeachment' mean?
"Impeachment is the process by which a legislative body levels charges against a
government official. Impeachment does not in itself remove the official from office;
it is equivalent to an indictment in criminal law, and thus is only the statement of
charges against the official. ... In the United States, for example, impeachment at the Federal level is limited to those who may have committed 'Treason, Bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors'." Wikipedia
What is stated in the US Constitution?
"Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States; but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law."
