Atlanta Buckhead Midtown
Nov 20th Democratic Debate Format Revealed
Oprah Winfrey Sound Stage will be the site of the next Democratic Debate.
When informed of the site for the debate,
Atlanta Mayor Kiesha Lance Bottoms made the following statement:
"Thank you for choosing Atlanta. The fact that this will be hosted on an old
Confederate Army base, built by slaves, and now owned by an African-American
man, speaks to all our country has been, all that it is, and all that it can be."
Due to complaints and suggestions after the previous debate, a more detailed structure has been planned for the upcoming debate. Debate moderators will address the issue of equal time to speak. Hosting the debate are MSNBC and The Washington Post. The panel of modeerators will include NBC News reporter Kristen Welker, Washington Post reporter Ashley Parker and MSNBC hosts Rachel Maddow and Andrea Mitchell.
The last names of the candidates (in alphabetical order) who may participate in the upcoming debate are Biden, Booker, Buttigieg, Castro, Gabbard, Harris, Klobucher, O'Rourke, Sanders, Steyer, Warren and Yang.
Jonathan Raymond reported for WXIA that "The New York Times counted out exactly how much time each of the candidates spoke during the last debate, in mid-October in Ohio, and it revealed stark discrepancies." When aired, NBC News says that the debate will play in four sections with three commercial breaks.
"To address this, the moderators at the Oprah Winfrey Sound Stage at the Tyler Perry Studios on Nov. 20 will look to limit candidates to a more tightly-controlled structure, including:
- No opening statements
- 75 seconds to answer
- 45 seconds for follow-ups, at moderators' discretion
- 75 seconds for closing arguments"
