Christmas Eve 2019

It's A Wrap

Christmas Eve 2019 - It's A Wrap   Last night was Christmas Eve, 2019.  And another year has passed.  Many moments of 2019 have become memories.

During our traditional family meal of pizza(just one piece....really)followed by an evening of far too many desserts(willpower...willpower...oh, damn), a gift exchange and assorted "events" including the appearance of multiple white elephants(not a herd but a circus of sorts)...I was thinking.

I was thinking of the things that have become memories and traditions.  Some histories are crystal clear and some are a bit hazy.  Even when discussed out loud --- we each remember events and occurrences in different ways.  That's the thing about memories -- while some are obviously shared and fondly remembered.   Many are uniquely ours.  New experiences, circumstances and many other factors influence our behavior and thoughts.    Some things are not discussed.  That's just the way it is.  Many things become new memories.

Today, brings another day.  Many new moments.  Actually it's a combination of memories of the past as well as memories-in-the-making.   Happening today and each day.  All in the moment.

Merry Christmas if you celebrate and Happy Wednesday to you all.

It's true,

Christmas can feel like a lot of work,

particularly for mothers.

But when you look back on all the Christmases in your life,

you'll find you've created family traditions and lasting memories.

Those memories, good and bad,

are really what help to keep a family together over the long haul.

Hello Sharon Lee - I hope you enjoy your pizza dinner this evening and that it is delicious.  No fuss and no muss is an excellent way to approach life in my opinion.

Oh, I love the quote and agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments, Michael! I have always enjoyed groups of (mostly family members) resurrecting memories and how vastly different they are remembered based on the perspective and/or the impact of the experience...or could be simply not wanting to remember that particular memory! LOL

I hope you had a wonderful day and wish you an abundance of peace, joy and love in new year.

Debe Maxwell, CRS - it's really nice, isn't it?  Here's to an abundance of everything that is good and joyous.

Elyse Berman, PA - so tempting but oh so delicious.

Kathy Streib - I just got back from more Christmas festivities...it seems the kids were still going strong but others were definitely members of the "pooped" category.

Rebecca Gaujot, Realtor® - that seems true.

I can fully relate to Caroline Kennedy's quote.  I was busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest yesterday.  But, I'm basking in the afterglow of it today!

Hello Michael!

I enjoyed reading your post and really liked that quote too! Oddly enough, I spoke to my oldest sister on the phone yesterday morning and had to shake my head. Several times I wondered, how could two people relatively close in age, live in the same house, with the same family members and have different memories, no memory, or partical memories, but not the whole picture?

Your famly tradition sounds like fun! I struggle to remember the last time I enjoyed a family Christmas but I'm positive it was rather crazy; yet fun!

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - families are an never-ending source of head-shaking.  Sometimes in agreement and other times when you wonder how  two people can have such different memories of what seem to be so vivid an experience to one party but not the other. Interesting, huh?

Michael Jacobs - Truly mysterious! Family members are often difficult to understand, let alone impossible to explain. The characters may be present but the plot is hardly ever the same.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - interesting - fascinating - mysterious   all of the above and so many other descriptions.  I am sure my siblings would agree as well if they were to describe me and my recollection of current issues or of our own family history.  Never a dull moment...

Love the quote! So true.

Memories, and the making of them, are quite important to me. It's funny how people in the same situation do remember things differently. I love when that happens!
