Community and Real Estate Information

The westernmost neighborhood in Sommerville, MA is known as West Somerville. The Alewife Greenway Bike Path runs through the area, which is bordered by Arlington. Tufts University is to the east of the area, while Teele Square is to the south. The area is mostly residential, however there are a few small grocery stores to the south of the neighborhood that are ideal for your daily shopping needs. Parks abound in the neighborhood, with the parkway to the west providing as an ideal outdoor place for a variety of activities that the whole family may enjoy. Although most of the new construction in the neighborhood is townhouses, there are some condominium and low-rise apartment complexes in West Somerville's southern section.

West Somerville is a nice suburban area with a welcoming atmosphere for families searching for a new home in the city. Residents have easy access to a variety of amenities, which makes the region appealing to purchasers who intend to raise a family here. The neighborhood's vast outdoor space to the west offers great attractions that you may enjoy alone or with your family. There are also several schools in the region, with both public and private educational institutions easily available to residents.

West Somerville real estate consists of a mix of magnificent Colonial single-family and multi-family homes. The bulk of the properties in the neighborhood were built during the 1910s and 1930s, with many of them undergoing renovations and rebuilds throughout time. You may expect to see duplexes, townhouses, and connected loft-style dwellings throughout the area in addition to the typical single-family home construction. The basic one- to two-bedroom single-family house constructions are the most inexpensive, with prices ranging from $700,000 to $1.5 million. These homes generally range in size from 1,100 to 1,700 square feet and feature one to three levels. The bigger homes in the neighborhood are generally in the one million dollar range and have a multi-level layout, including a basement. With wood panel walls, wide framed windows, and steepled roofs, these houses preserve the traditional New England and Colonial characteristics found throughout the city. There are pleasant living spaces with fireplaces, a small kitchen, and an eating space on the inside. There is street parking accessible throughout the neighborhood, and most homes have side driveways with plenty of room for several automobiles.

Important Considerations

There are fewer alternatives for having an exclusive yard because many of the residences are huge multi-family or renovated Victorian homes. Rental and sales costs are greater because of the near proximity to Davis Square.
