Lil Tiger Pumpkins

Lil Tiger Pumpkins at Trader Joe's Oceanside

It's pumpkin season and everywhere you go we see them for sale - pumpkin patches, the grocery stores, Home Depot, fruit and vegetable stands.

It's pretty amazing how many varieties there are of pumpkins, squash, and hybrids, in a wide range of colors, shapes, and sizes.

I didn't recall seeing these Lil Tiger Pumpkins before - that could be just a memory issue - but Trader Joe's had a plentiful supply, along with a number of other varieties so out came the camera.

Are you a traditionalist or do you enjoy other types of pumpkins and such?

Jeff, those tiger pumpkins are too cute and don't think I have seen them either.   The others look like they have a problem.....

Hi Jeff,  Thanks for sharing this picture of the lil tiger pumpkins.  I haven't seen any like these either, though I have seen a wide variety of them.  My favorite part about pumpkins is the pie.  If it's a good pie pumpkin then I'm all for it.

Jeff the pumpkins in the second picture look like they have kissed on to many frogs.  🤪

Hi Joan Cox

The Lil Tigers are pretty cool. Yep, the others are somewhat unusual - they are called Knucklehead Pumpkins.

There are so many different varieties it would be hard to keep track. Wonder if those Lil Tigers make a good pie?! Bet others share your sentiment about pumpkin pie!

Jeff,

I was checking out those tiger lily pumpkins the other day.  I also saw star shaped pumpkins.  I meant to take a picture, but will do next Saturday if they are still there. A

Hi Jeff- I love all of the different pumpkins that are out and love white pumpkins.. And yes, I still like the traditional pumpkin as well. I've been tempted to buy some really big white pumpkins for out front but we have so many critters around, I'm not sure they'd last.

I don't recall ever seeing the Lil tiger pumpkins and the knuckleheads must have spent too much time with toads

Yep, those white ones are pretty cool. I saw some recently that had very cool painted faces!

Wonder what critters eat pumpkins?

Ha ha Ed Silva  That's certainly one explanation for the warts.

They certainly add a different perspective to the usual line-up of pumpkins.

Hello Jeff - you are right about the wide variety of pumpkins that seem to be available.   I don't recall so many different kinds when I was a kid.  The lil tiger pumpkins are new-to-me or maybe I just need to pay closer attention.

Good morning, Jeff... I've always like the look of the tiger pumpkins and we can usually find them relatively easily in my area. I always buy a few and put them in a bowl.

I like the look of the first ones which I guess are lil tiger pumpkins but the second set of pumpkins look like they have a bunch of warts on them, haha.
