Questions  and Answers

     1.  We all go on vacation to get away from it all and have a great time, but I want to know, what vacation day was your worst?

It was the first time I traveled with Donald and all three of our children.  It was all together a bad vacation 24 hours.  It began on day one in the afternoon. We had left San Diego, taken a detour to Las Vegas and stayed at the Circus Circus a couple of day with the kids and had a wonderful time.  We headed out in the early morning and went to Hoover Dam... still great.  But then came the grand canyon. I walked over to look down into the canyon and it's glorious beauty and got the worst case of vertigo of my life.  I became very physically ill and was that way the rest of the days drive.  We stopped earlier than usual and found a hotel which turned out to be not one of the best places we ever picked.  I still felt horrible and didn't sleep well.  The next morning when we got up leave I discovered our boys had suitcases full of dirty laundry and used up all their clean clothes in two days.

So we went to a laundry mat to do laundry.  So Donald took the kids to get breakfast while I stayed to do laundry.  They were gone a super long time.  As it turned out we were in the  middle of nowhere and fast food wasn't in the area.  So they had to drive about 20 miles from where we were to find food.  So I was literally already folding laundry.  And it was way before the kind of technology we have today.  We had a "car phone" not a hand held cell phone and just one of them. I had imagined every worst case scenario possible by the time they got back. I waited years to tell Donald that I literally thought at one point he might never come back for me at all.  Yeah, I don't much let him out of my site on vacation to this day.

     2.  What would be your bucket list vacation or, if you have already taken it, tell us about it?  Pictures encouraged.

Donald and I have been on so many vacations to so many places that we have covered a LOT of my bucket list.  There are only a few states we haven't been to. And the vacations with the kids were great... but our national park adventure in 2017 was fantastic.  We hit 15 states in three weeks.  The only "plan" we had we changed because of weather.  Remember the total eclipse the summer of 2017... well we watched it from Douglas, Wyoming because where we had planned to see it was going to have storms. We saw a ton of national and state parks and picked out some "weird" thing in each state to visit.  We saw the world's largest cross in Illinois and a murder house in Ohio

    3.  If your ActiveRain friends were to visit you, would you prepare dinner for them or would you take them to the best pizza joint in town?  What would you make or where would you go?

I have done both.  I have cooked for a few and I have taken some out to local hot spots. A current favorite stop is Legands.  I took Carol Williams there while she had the oil changed in her car for lunch and Thom Abbott for dinner when he popped by on his way back to Atlanta from a day trip.  However Mona Gersky and her mom had lunch at my office when they stopped by.  And lots of people have had drinks on the back porch.

     4.  We all know that Canadian bacon and pineapple are the best toppings for any pizza.  If you can’t have those toppings on your pizza, what would you choose?

I am a veggie pizza kind of gal.  I love peppers, mushrooms, onions, olives and artichoke hearts.

     5.  What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

I don't know if I have a favorite.  Different moods call for different ice cream. I probably eat it 3 or 4 times a year.

     6.  What is your beverage of choice with dinner; beer, wine, iced tea, a cocktail, or …..?

Again... it depends on the meal.  Last night I had sangria with eggplant parmesan, I had plum wine the last time I had Japanese, I had tea with Sunday homestyle lunch.  I don't like or drink beer and sometimes I just want water.

    7.  Do you prefer going to a concert, the theater, or a big sporting event?  Who or what would you be watching?

Again it depends.  I love baseball, but I prefer spring and fall ball not the heat of summer.  But this summer we took in a Styx concert in a venue with A/C which was a perfect summer thing to do.  One of my favorites was seeing Fleetwood Mac. We also have been to productions by our local college theater which we enjoy as well.

     8.  There are so many great festivals across the country.  Is there a special one in your area? Pictures are encouraged.

We have the Deep Roots festival (that's it's new name because an unnamed beer company sued our town to change the name) That really burned my butt. The former name came from the Creek Indian word for Oconee... but that meaning was literally stripped from history and the internet when a beer company sued the town. But I still know, so there.

     9.  What is your greatest sporting accomplishment, hitting a hole in one, bowling a perfect game, hitting the game winning shot, etc.?  If you do not enjoy athletics, what is your greatest accomplishment?

In my billiards class in college I sunk the 8 ball when I broke.  I also leg pressed 440 pounds.

    10.  Are you a pet person?  If so, names and pictures are a must!

I have been a pet person all my life. In my adult life there's been Brownie, Shop Cat, Felix and Garfield, Charlie, Mollee, Gabby, Murphy, Skitty, Gracie, Jack, Ittle Bitty, Glen and Laney and Meow Meow.  Jack lives at my parents, Skitty (who is 20) lives at home and Meow Meow lives at the office.  The rest will waiting to greet me in heaven.

     11.  What is your favorite thing to collect, or do you prefer to keep things simple and clutter free? Or what is your decorating style?

Shot glasses and they are in a curio in my living room.  I don't have a style... I have books and clutter and I'm happy with it.

     12.  What job did you have just prior to making the switch to real estate and has it helped you in your real estate career?  (Courtesy of Jeff Dowler, CRS)

I was the secretary in a real estate office.  It was an easy transition in 1994. In 1995 I bought the firm I worked at.  In 1997 I became the Qualifying Broker.

     13.  When you are writing on ActiveRain, who is your audience and why did you choose them for your audience? (Courtesy of Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400)

Again it depends.  Some posts are written for buyers, some (like this one) are written for members, some are written as therapy, some are written to help people I will likely never meet or know they helped. But I will say there are people I met because I blog here that are treasured members of my extended family.... people I truly love.

     14.  What makes you the real estate agent of choice in your area?

I have 7 generations buried in the local cemetery.  I know this area like the back of my hand. AND I continue to learn every single day.  I love helping people accomplish goals and overcome obstacles. And there isn't a lot about it I don't know after 30 years in the business.

     15.  What is the most outrageous action that a client has ever asked you to perform?

I wrote a post about this once.  I divided ashes of a deceased person to give half to his children.  The other half my seller kept to bury with her sister who was his second wife. I put the half they kept in a glass candy jar.

     16.  We show a lot of homes in our profession.  What is the most interesting home or, item in a home, that you have encountered?

A private swimming pool on the patio of a condo.  It was a small lap pool.  Turned out the former head of the HOA did what he wanted.

     17.  What are your three favorite neighborhoods in your area and what makes them special?  Are you lucky enough to live in one of those neighborhoods?

Tanglewood, Lakeside and mine (Possum Point)

     18.  We all love client testimonials, but is there one that really made you feel special?  We would love to see it.

my very favorite

Tammy Lankford is the best of the best. I was recently a first time home buyer (closed March 15, 2012) and Tammy made the whole process so incredibly easy! Based on stories I had heard (and from watching home buying shows) I never thought buying a home would be such an easy process. Tammy comes with the house and will be your realtor for life, even if you never move again. She will keep you posted with any new information before you even have a chance to ask and she will give you great recommendations along the way. I couldn't be happier and I would recommend her to anyone. She's definitely on your side and she works very hard to always give you the best service possible. If you're looking for a realtor, she will far exceed your expectations!

     19.  What is your favorite volunteer work or charity?

I have taught Sunday school for 35 years.  I've gotten more than I have given.  I love children.  I have taught 5 year olds to 5th graders... currently 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.

     20.  What does the flag represent to you?

Freedom and Liberty.

    21.  When we discuss life, my dad always says he is not sure what he would like to be when he grows up.  He is 77!  What do you want to be when you grow up or are you already in your perfect profession?

My dream job is being a Grammy.  Don't get me wrong I love real estate.  But the moment I became a Grammy life was so much more wonderful. And while I don't love my second grandson any less, there will always be a bond between Cooper and I that is like no other.  He made me a Grammy. He was just a couple weeks old in this photo.  And I am getting to have some "alone" time with him now that I'm driving him home from school a couple of days a week.

Tammy Lankford, This is a beautiful entry into this month's challenge. I loved learning more about you and felt your pain when you got vertigo, and then Donald and the kids were gone for a long time. Being asked to divide ashes...that's quite interesting. Thanks for participating.

Tammy Lankford, - Life is full of adventures, isn't it? Your first story about the vacation had my heart in my throat when you went to the laundry matt and Donald took the kids to get breakfast and they were gone a super long time... I'm so glad they came back but anything could have happened to them or you! True separation anxiety is no joke - I've been there many times too.

Loved how you expressed your happiness because of AR friends!

I am sure that there are many other people who could write similar "Deep Roots" stories. Ridiculous, isn't it! "But I still know, there!" Could be a great title for a book!!!

I remember those stories about baby Cooper. Those were nothing less than homespun beautiful baby & Grammy stories. Straight from the heart, with love!

Wow, sinking the 8-ball on the break is really cool.  I don't recall if I have ever done that myself or not.
