Grateful for feedback

These signs are all along the path of the Camino De Santiago de Compostela, they tell you how far you have to go once you real Galicia, before that the signs can be a little hit and miss, but they provide valuable feedback as to whether you are on the right path and going in the right direction. This one is actually at Finisterra on the coast and is the very end of what is known as the Camino de Finisterra which runs from Santiago de Compostella, I walked this extra distance and found this to be the most emotional moment for me.

How does this relate to real estate and gratefulness. This past week, I had two buyers I am currently working with me send me feedback which I found extremely helpful and encouraging. Firstly, we can all think we are good listeners, but we need someone to actually say it one way or another to confirm it.

Finding homes for customers is really hard at the moment, especially when they have very specific wants and needs. It doesn't mean you will not find them what they want, but it may take a little longer and they may realize along the way that they might have to adjust their needs and wants as they understand they have missed homes that might have worked for them. We are agents, and our job is to follow the directions of our clients. But, we are also advisors who must let them know the options so they can make the right decisions along the way.

This was the first comment:

Anytime you see that the master and my daughter's room would be on different floors, it won't work.  I greatly appreciate you looking out for that.  You have taken the time to understand what we have to have and that helps.

Thanks Nick!

The second comment was after i had recommended a property following a discussion of what a new client was looking for.

We drove by the property the weekend we met you and agreed it had possibilities.   Our first reaction was noting that many of homes on the street appear tired and this home as been updated to where it is much nicer than the others resulting in pros /cons.  Nevertheless it does speak well of your perception of how we conveyed our " wish list"

I was really encouraged that I had listened well and grateful that I am on the right track with both clients. I know we will find the right home for both at the right time for each as well.

Hello Nick - I just finished a book and while I came away with many valuable lessons learned, one that stands out is "know your audience".  While Ilong known, understanding that in a different way makes it increase in importance.   Your post brings that message to me in a different, yet quite similar, way.

I think that's a problem why many buyers switch agents...they don't listen! Yes, feedback helps the listing agent, the seller and the buyers!

I loved following that journey you made and my church also made a movie about their journey along that trail.  I wonder if one day I will make that journey as well myself.

Pat Champion thank you, it makes you feel good to be appreciated.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 very true and you have to listen with both ears and both eyes, because sometimes you need to ask follow up questions as what they say is not what they mean.

Brian England you would love that journey, maybe we can walk some of it together one day.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 - For bloggers like me who remembered you taking that amazing journey, I'm glad you began this post with a reminder and your purpose for writing this blog post.

Being grateful for feedback is an excellent way to express gratitude. I like how your story reminded then transitioned to a back to work experience, a reminder about how important listening is to our clients!

This was so much more that a gratitude post, it was an inspiration and motivational too!

Hi Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 - Your analogy of the signs giving feedback fits well into your post.  Nice job!

Those are two beautiful comments about your listening skills. There is nothing more important than listening with an understanding of what our clients' wants and needs are.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® thank you, during a home search you often have to make adjustments for multiple reasons, and if you are not listening you cannot guide your client well and give them good advice when making those changes.
