Friday Flags at The Prospect CT Post Office

With a stiff breeze in the week, the flags at the front of the post office in Prospect CT were fluttering fully.

Not only the American flag, but also a Pow/Mia flag which was quite prevalent in the early 80's.

It's not likely that the Southeast Asian service people are still alive but there will always be a group of people seeking the closure that can only be brought by the return of the remains of those lost during that conflict.

It was a great site to see and well deserving of a pause in the day to grab a photo.

Ed I agree that it is very unlikely that the Southeast Asian service people are still alive, and that those families will not have closure until their remains are returned.

Good morning, Ed... nice photo. I, for one, have always loved to see the POW/MIA flag... maybe because I came of age in college during the height of the conflict and protests in the 1960's. We should never forget... and we should never stop being ashamed of how we treated returning soldiers from that war.

George Souto   While I don't know of anyone that was lost there, I do know of a few that died there but their remains came home.

Kat Palmiotti   For those families, it is an open wound that never heals

Nina Hollander, Broker   I have an acquaintance that was a very outspoken advocate for the POW/Mia's for a very long time and still carries a sticker on his car seeking their return.

Wayne Martin   Time doesn't heal all wounds but just erases the memory as a generation passes

Hi Ed,

I do remember how prominent those MIA flags were in the 80s.  We will never know what happened to them. I pray for the families.

HI Ed- I always love seeing our Flag flying but how nice to see the POW/MIA flag as well. I used to see it more often but I fear that the further we get from that period, people may forget about those who served then.

My uncle Robert was a MIA/POW who perished during the Korean War, Ed. Hope in my lifetime, his remains will be brought back home to a final resting place. As generations pass, many of the memories of military loved ones lost, go along with them.

Thanks for the post!

Ed Silva - It is a grand old Flag to be proud of for sure. I like the looks of your Post Office. The two flags look extra special because both have historical significance. My Flower Mound Post office fly's both flags, like yours does. It always gives me a moment to pause and keep POW's and those who fought in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Ed,
I always love to see our flag flying and even better with the Flag honoring the POWs. One of my biggest regrets is the younger generations will likely never be able to comprehend the sacrifices made for the freedom they enjoy.
