Part of historic Dilworth's charm is the craftsman style bungalows and small shops and businesses that make up the community. Well, say goodbye to a little piece of charm, as Carolinas Healthcare System edges out in an expansion plan that will reach all the way to East Boulevard.
Some of the buildings to be demolished will include those that house Caribou Coffe, Bueggers' Bagels and Cantina 1511 - all on East Boulevard. Homes along Garden Terrace Avenue, Lombardy Circle and Fountain View Street are also being targeted for acquisition as part of the planned expansion.
There are a few holdouts that are refusing to sell, but most are jumping on board as the offers for their properties are hard to refuse.
I am all for business expansion and the economic opportunities that come along with it, however I do hope that Carolinas Healthcare System will take extra care as they creep into the historic landscape of Dilworth.
