Parents and children are encouraged to particiapte. More than 1500 attended this celebration last year!

  • Families will have the opportunity to get information about programs and services offered;

Donations can include:

  • pencils, pens, erasers, calculators, notebooks, pencil bags, index cards, scissors, notebook paper, clips,   backpacks, dictionaries, or anything that will make returning to school an exciting experience.
  • Recycle extra pads of paper, post-its, pens, rulers, backpacks etc.

angel     You can also donate money or a backpack full of items from approx $20-$30.

For more information on donations send an email to Mary-Ellen at the Nashua Chamber of commerce.  marcouillier@nashuachamber.com

Donations can be dropped of at the Chamber office on 151 Main Street.

Perhaps there is a similar back to school event in your community!  Feel free to supply a link with your comments below.

This is a great way to do some marketing and to help kids with the supplies they will need to go back to school.

Recycle those old lunch boxes, backpacks , binders, pencils, pens, book covers and other other items that a kid can use.

Note:  Last year free Shuttle bus service to and from the event was available from Amherst Street School, Sargent Ave entrance, and the front entrances at Dr. Crisp, Fairgrounds Elementary, and Ledge Street schools.  Check with these schools to see if busses will be available.

Hi George~ I know this makes a huge difference to families that are struggling.  There are so many deserving programs and charities, but education is so important.  I think it will be a huge success.

Joan ~  This has been such a great success.  I don't know who first had the idea of helping get kids backpack with supplies, but it is needed by so many kids in this area.  I am going to the dollar store and get a bunch of supplies -- also, I have lots of "free pens" !

Joan, that's a great idea. I always stock up on crayons, paper, pencils that we can donate to whatever group is collecting for kids. I know how excited they get when they see their new supplies.

Joan:  What a great idea !  Also... school starts on August 21st.  I cannot remember that way back when I was in school... that school never started in August.  It was almost always the first Tuesday in September.  It seems kids spend more time in school than I did when I was that age.  Thanks for sharing this great post.  Take care...

Joan that is a great idea, and it is hard to believe that school will be starting up again in only a few weeks. I am not ready for fall yet, and I bet the kids aren't either.

Mary~  It seems like the summer is flying by so quickly.  I know the kids can't believe the school supplies are already showing up in the stores.  At least they have a few more weeks before they have to start a new school year!  Thanks for commenting.

Jennifer~  This celebration of going back to school has been a big success,... both for the kids and for those that make generous donations.  It is great to see the kids smiles when they receive a backpack ready-for-school!  It really helps out a lot of families in our area!

Diane~  The kids can no longer be in denial once they get those backpacks (lol).  Actually it does make the kids excited about going back to school and it helps their parents out too!  It is greate to see the community reaching out to those kids that could use some assistance.

I notice the image showing the kids running back to school. I'm looking for the image of them resisting. ;-)

Hey Chuck -- I guess it's all a matter of perspective -- perhaps the school is behind them and they are running away!  Maybe the are heading to the ice-cream truck!  Thanks for commenting!

Duane~ This is a great program and I am so glad to see that the community comes together to help these families and kids get ready for school.  There are several other programs in the community as well.  Even though a lot of people are feeling the pinch of the gas prices, they are willing to step forward and contribute.

Duane~   My neighbors kids are very excited about getting back to school, except for the youngest one -- He wants summer to go on forever!  After the record snow fall last year, I can see his point -- as he said there is nothing to do except shovel snow in the winter!

Hi Joan - Excellent information you are providing about going back to school. You did bring back some painful memories of that time of year I always dreaded :)

Hi Bill ~  Sorry to bring back any painful memories.  Actually some of the kids I talked to are looking forward to going back!  Hope you have some good memories of those school days as well!  I always hated the first day or so, but after that I was in the "groove".
