Tips for Preparing to Sell, on the Today Show

By
Home Stager with ALR Home Staging and Showcasing, LLC

It's not often I get to sit and watch television in the morning.  I left NBC on this morning in the living room while catching up on emails.  It was just loud enough that I could hear what was going on if I tuned in.

Thankfully, my ears perked up at the perfect time as the clip with Barbara Corcoran on the Today Show came on.  I heard something said about 'Curb Appeal' and quickly stopped what I was doing to sit for a minute and watch.  If you didn't get to tune in...take a peak.

I watched the clip this morning, too. I was happy to see them stress the fact that a lot could be accomplished with a minimal financial outlay.

Abby -- I caught the tail end of it this morning so thanks for including the entire clip here ... excellent tips from Barbara Corcoran that, as she said, anyone can do in a weekend and it will make a big difference in appeal.

Dawna, Kathy R, Kathy A, Kathy N and Maureen:  You're welcome!

I'm gonna fess up: that was a first for me to include a clip in a blog post.  I feel like I really succeeded at something today!  =)

I really enjoy the Today shows real estate contributor.  She is usually right on point.

Abby thank you for including the clip and congrats for getting it on your blog.  I liked what she had to say - but once again the labor isn't included in the cost and for stagers that is a considerable amount.  The $700 spent on materials really made a difference to that home.  Lots of good info for homeowners.  Betty

Hi Kristina, I found that MSNBC.com has a great archive of a lot of Barbara's segments...in case anyone wants to see any others they might have missed.  =)

Hi Betty, I agree with the labor aspect but as she said, it was intended to represent a 'family' doing the work.  My husband is doing home improvements now and even he said it was a little far fetched for a family to get all that done in 48 hours.  You'd have to have some really good friends to pitch in and help to save on labor costs.  But all in all, I think the tips were good---especially the outside.

(I wasn't crazy about the use of a wood-look vinyl floor...was anyone else not feeling that either?)

Hey Abby! Congrats on embedding the show...you are moving up in the world! :) LOL!  I'm like that too....love it when I can figure out & master all this technology!

I wasn't feeling the floor either.....yuck!

This is a really good example of what our staging consultations can do for a homeowner!  We can give them the "plan" like Barbara did to get the most important things done on a budget.  I know she was telling the homeowners what to focus on for their own DIY but for the majority of folks still need help figuring out "what to do". Having that staging expert with the vision makes it a whole lot easier and you know its done right.

Hi Teresa, lol, I was like "Woo Hoo" when the video came up when I was done and it actually played!  SUCCESS!  =)  It's the little things that excite me these days.

Good, glad I wasn't the only one.  I do realize what she was going for, though...I think it showed how well wood flooring would look in that room (and it would!) to get prospective buyers to 'imagine' the possibilities of what they could do to upgrade.  I just think those tiles look super-cheesey in person.  Just my 2 cents...

But yes, she does help Sell the importance of getting a Home Staging Consultation

Thanks, Barbara!  =)

Abby...it doesn't take much to excite me either these days! LOL!

I just wanted to add that I wish Barbara would have added "Get in touch with a professional stager in your area that can help you make a plan.  Consultations with these experts range anywhere from $100-300."

Of course, I'm dreaming.....

Abby ~ It just goes to prove a point. Staging and improving your home does make it more appealing. It is such a no brain-er.

Why is it, that the Realtor did make these suggestions in the beginning?

Why would she let this listing linger on the market for 6 months?

Home improvements are not a secret.

Why do some Realtors ignore the fact that bringing in a Stager for a consultation will introduce valuable information to their clients that will improve their visibility to potential buyers?

Thanks for sharing this clip.
