P's in a pod

Wanna be a millionaire in five years? How about overnight, next week, next month, or next year? Perhaps one needs to be a little practical.

I can find a word that begins with the letter P to describe virtually any Part of a succesful business. However, I want the sum of those P's to be greater than any individual P, so if I get all my P's in their pod, then I can create both a successful business and a successful personal life. I've already discussed a few of them (see my previous blog entries). Tonight, let's look at being practical. I try to be practical in all that I do.

Being practical means practicing long-term planning. Where do you want to be at age 65? How old are you now? I'm 48, so I have 17 years to get there. Consequently, I have a 17-year plan and an 8½ year plan, as well as plans for Year 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. Then I have plans for each day, week, month, and quarter for that first year.

Now remember that your goals, your projections, generally do not change once you have them set, even if you set them too low or too high. Think about quarterly reports from the publicly traded companies. They have their goals, stated as projected income. They announce each quarter whether or not they met their quarterly goals. They'll also announce whether or not they think they can meet their annual goals. You should be doing the same thing.

Also remember to take care of yourself and your family.

That means taking some time off, whether it be a certain time each day, not working on Sunday, or whatever. Life is too short to spend it all working. If you plan, and are practical in your planning, you can succeed without getting burned out. ActiveRain has a great system here because they only award points for 10 blogs per week and 10 comments per day. Even the ActiveRain Powers That Be recognize that you need a life outside of ActiveRain and business.

Visit my other helpful blogs (you can get all your daily comments in right here, right now!). You can find quick links to all of them by using the widget just under my picture at the upper right.

Good comments....I think that there's a little too much cheese hhere sometimes.  What AR does to combat that is setting boundaries with its scoring mechanism.

Hi Jim,

Good stuff, being practical works for me! I like what you said about having goals for multiple years.
