What a Relief! Fox Nine News Interviews Clergyman to Reassure Us about the Supercollider

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Wayzata Lakes Realty: Eric Kodner Sells Twin Cities Homes

Don't you just love Fox News and their local affiliates?

Fox Nine News in the Twin Cities just ran a segment this evening about the CERN Large Hadron Collider project, located near Geneva, Switzerland.  The Fox Nine News spot dealt with the current delay in the widely-publicized LHC beam collision experiment, now scheduled to take place in early 2009.

Fox Nine News devoted nearly half of the segment to an interview with a Twin Cities clergyman, who spoke on camera to reassure all the little people that the world probably won't come to an end when the LHC is finally operable and that they shouldn't worry about those nasty Europeans meddling with God's universe.

You know, when you have a concern about quantum physics or the function of the world's largest particle accelerator, it's always reassuring to hear an opinion from someone with a Theology degree.

Now I'll be able to get a good night's sleep.

Oh brother - when did we become so unbelievably backward?  We seem to be devolving into an inbred bunch of barefoot bumpkins.   Perhaps we should have special prayer session during the next lunar eclipse!  Maybe if someone rises up and offers to bring the sun back during a solar eclipse they will become the next president.

Ruthmarie, maybe it's a sign of the times.  It could be the Sarah Palin "God wills it" bunch.  I wonder if FOX affiliates plan to air a religious counterpoint to every science and technology segment they run in the future.

You make a good point.  It's amazing that they thought anyone would care what the clergy thought about any type of science.

Dear Eric - I NEVER watch FOX News (national or local). If FOX was held to real journalistic standards it would be necessary for FOX to retract each story right after broadcast. 99.9% of FOX coverage is rubbish. You should read Charles P. Pierce's excellent piece from Harper's Magazine entitled "Greetings from Idiot America." Here's a small snippet:

The Gut is the basis for the Great Premises of Idiot America. We hold these truths to be self-evident:

  1. Any theory is valid if it sells books, soaks up ratings, or otherwise moves units.
  2. Anything can be true if somebody says it on television.
  3. Fact is that which enough people believe. Truth is determined by how fervently they believe it.

I think you'll really enjoy this article: http://www.aboyandhiscomputer.com/Greetings_from_Idiot_America.html

Thanks for a refreshing post!
