If owners of single family homes could depreciate them on a 20 year life, and commercial and residential time periods where made shorter than the exsisting periods.Moreover, if the resulting depreciaton was a tax credit not a deduction,values would recover today. The impact on the federal and state budgets would be less than what we are looking at in the various bailouts.
