If you are not maybe you should be, tapping into your past could be a great source of income. In less than 2 months I found close to 150 frieinds from High School that are scattered all over the world and know I continue looking, I am sure that more than one of them will be doing business with me. and the best part is they already now me. I am also enjoying the mental excercises remembering names and things we did. It is a great way to stay connected and to remind you family and friends of the business you do.

Dona, Facebook was originally created for a college so that you could socially network with teachers and students to exchange information. It is set up in a way that you share information with only the people you wish to share information with. I have been able to find family members, over 150 classmates from high school, college, University, friends scattered through out the globe, and even a few little girls I use to babysit. Just like Active rain it is setup as a place to leave messages and join groups,  In face book your user name will be your email address. The mistake I made originally was putting my married name, but even so they started recognizing the face and found me anyway. You can join groups from your pass employment places, book clubs, etc. You can even upload your family album and share it with family and friends and not with the public or share it only with one person. I hope this helps, Let me know how it goes.

Bruce, My answer to you is; It really depends on the market you wish to target and who you relate to best. I find My space to be a like Facebook but geared towards teens, it is almost like Facebook on steroides and blinged out. I am not saying it is a bad thing ias long as you can deal with it, I have both; and find that most people in Facebook have higher standards of respect and consideration people talk about their lives and business, like at the office water cooler. On MySpace it is more of a night life, fun, music, sex and rock'n'roll. So if you know your audience and are willing to play the game they both can work for you.

Angelica,

Friends and family need also to be reminded about you being a REALTOR? How many times have you heard that a relative bought a home? How many relatives only remember that you are a Realtor when they get into a pickle? Not only that it is easy to see what your friends and relatives are up to. They share what they are doing with their friends. All you have to do is remind them that you are there for them before they get in a pickle. Every so often put in your profile comments about your experience as a Realtor. Even if you chose to not work with your relatives or friends they are a great source for referrals. Besides most people will post things such as job change, relocation, moving, etc. on there profile your job is to put yourself at their service when this occurs.

Hope this helps.

I just openend an account with facebook recently.  The problem I am having is that I am not finding many friends, classmates, or collegues who are on facebook.  I guess that I am from an older generation that has not really joined the social networking craze.

Troy, You need to go to the groups and search for your schools, jobs or affiliations, if you don't find a group for your school create one, That is what I started doing and before long I was able to piece together close to 200 from HS, some from college and more with time. Find groups with things you have in common. Hope this helps. My high school class of 79, and from a different country so I am sure you will find people in time.

Rosa, Yes, I am on Facebook.  Yesterday, I just learned how to link my blog here to my profile page.  I am able to stay in contact with some of my clients who have moved out of state.  They send me there friends who live here as referrals.

It's a Good Life!

Rosemary,  Take your time to explore join groups of interest, Then form your own groups. I know that it is time consuming but if you keep at it you discover new things you can do with it. I am still learning how to do different things. I pulled the following info from their help guide. Hope it helps you with what you are trying to do.

Groups The Groups page contains all of the information about your groups on Facebook. On the Groups page you can see groups your friends have joined, as well as navigate to your own groups, and create new groups. You can always search and browse for groups to join from this page as well. Questions and Answers from Facebook Expand All Viewing and joining a group. Posting content to a group. Creating and running a group. Bugs and known problems. Have a suggestion? Tell us about it.

Questions and Answers from Users Why did my groups disappear --they were under my info tab and now they are gone. How can I change the group's name? I think my "auto-fill" button put my name in accidentally! I've created a group but now want to delete it. is this possible? i want a group member, an officer, to have admin privileges, how do i do this? HOW CAN I TURN BACK TO THE OLD FACEBOOK???? create a group how do i delete this application Is there anyway to change the network my group is attached to? Is there a way I can move my picture section in my group more at the top of the page rather than the bottom?? Its not possible to change the "Network" of groups. With a mistake the Network is set to "Norway", but we want it to be "Global". How do we change it?See All Questions and Answers from Users »

One of my clients finally joined Facebook after me telling him over and over to join. Within a few months he had reconnected to over 300 old friends and colleagues all over the US. AND, a few of them sent him referrals! Reconnect but be sure not to mix your "business and personal" too much - create a fan page for your business and let old colleagues join you there.

It is amazing how many people you can re-connect with in such a small amount of time.
