Re/Max.net and AOL don't mix

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Signature Properties

My life has become more complex by joining RE/MAX.  For years I have merrily gone along using AOL, even paying to use AOL, as my email address/provider.  Two years ago, I became a RE/MAX agent, then this past year RIMS leads came along:  my difficulties have multiplied.  I am finding more and more frequently that emails I receive through my MonaLisaMatthews@remax.net email address can be delayed for 24-48 hours before I receive them on my MonaLisaNChomes@aol.com address.   Does anyone out there have a solution to this problem other than the obvious - switch to something other than aol?  If that is your solution and you are tech saavy, who do you recommend and why?  I have been using my aol address for so many years that it is deeply embedded out there, not to mention reprinting costs on lots of marketing stuff.  Perhaps I need to bite the bullet and hire some techie help.  What's an old dog to do?

Get off of aol-their email servers conflict with a LOT of software, not just the remax.net addresses.  A good free one is gmail (the google email address), and my favorite cheap web email is my att.net address (a whopping $5.95/month).  keep your aol for a while but change the return address in Outlook (I can show you how if you want), and folks will automatically start replying to the new address.  And you can wean off of aol! =)

Listen to Leigh and use gmail; it's free and it has lots of great features including a huge amount of storage. Did I mention it's FREE?

AOL are the Communists of the Internet World. They have so many filters and security things that it really ruins the whole Internet thing.

gmail and others will work out just fine for you.

Thank you all so much for the great info.   I will switch over soon to something different, maybe the gmail.  I want to utilize Outlook Express or my Agent Office better in connection with this change.  Since I don't have a real indepth understanding of how it all connects, I'm afraid to make a change for fear I'll mess it up big time.  Leigh, maybe I can catch you in the office sometime cause I know you use Agent Office too.  Technology makes me feel like those old episodes of Welcome Back Kotter when Vinnie would hold his head and say, "I'm so confused!!!"    I'm showing my age again.  LOL   enjoy all.

Thank you all so much for the great advice.  I took it!  I now use my MonaLisaMatthews@remax.net as my email address which is forwarded to a new gmail address and comes up on Outlook on my desktop on my laptop.  It is all just tip-top.   Now if Leigh and I could just figure out how to get the AOL address to forward to my Outlook too, I could start weaning folks off of that.  It was blocking everything we tried.  So we quit before throwing the computer at the wall.  We will try again.  In the meantime, I am changing all sites I know of over and sending short blurbs to all of the change.  Thanks so much, I am feeling much better now!
