We Had a Great Time! Choctaw Ball 2009

By

I promised to come back today with photos from last night's Krewe of Choctaw Annual Pow Wow.  What a night!

We spent the day decorating tables, meeting caterers and getting dolled up for the big night.

The Captain's Table

With over 400 people in attendance, the Pow Wow was a resounding success.  The evening opened with the posting of the colors by the Helen Cox JROTC Color Guard and the singing of the National Anthem.

One by one, the court from 2008 was honored.

Then came the entry of the Captain to open the ball.  Only my musician hubby would take the theme of "The Mardi Gras of Love" and use it to enter the floor to the sounds of KISS and Calling Dr. Love.

The Captain

The Captain was followed by the presentation of the 2009 Court.  After the tableau was complete, there was an umbrella decorating contest, table decorating contest, and dancing to live music from Midnight Special, plus a special appearance by Chicken on the Bone.

After closing up the teepee for another year, I have to look back at the evening and say it was spectacular...the Captain and officers did a wonderful job of planning this event.  My poor feet are still tired from dancing all night!

I'll leave you with a few more photos of a wonderful night....

Lisa:  Those pictures are really great, and your daughter Leslie is gorgeous... I'm sure she gets that from you.  But... where is the picture of you (the Princess) in your white beaded gown ?  Your fans I am sure are so disappointed.  Take care... great post.

Last year around this time we were in Biloxi and attended a Mardi Gras Ball.  It was my first ever and I had such a grand time and especially loved people watching - everyone dressed so beautifully!

Thank you so much for sharing your photos with us Lisa.  Your family is gorgeous!  I especially liked the last one of your husband rocking away on his guitar!

Great pictures!  What a beautiful family Lisa!  I grew up in Philadelphia and these pictures reminded me of our Mummers Parade.  I'm glad you had a great time!

Barbara, it is our biggest event of the year (except for the actual parade, of course!) and we always have a great time.

Karen Anne, sorry, the Captain's wife cannot be Princess, but that's OK...I love seeing all of the ladies in their costumes and remembering my time in the court years ago :)

Kris, thank you! I'm kind of partial to them, you know? LOL! And hubby is not happy w/o a guitar in his hand!

Susan, what is the Mummers Parade? Sounds like a post you need to write :)

Charles, we have lots of people that attend that aren't club members - come on down next year!

Jo, I love the traditions and part of hubby's job as the captain is to keep them alive. He always does, even if he throws in a little twist.

CTS, thanks for the feature!

Lisa nice pictures.  I didn't realize until today your husband is the captain of the krewe.  Now I know why you have such a good time each year.  Hope you have good weather this year.

Judi, you know you want to come...come on!

Kathy, what do you expect in a city that thinks purple, green and gold goes really well together :)

John, yep, he's the captain.  It's Mardi Gras 365 days a year at my house!

LaShawn, the invitation is open for any Rainers that want to attend next year.

Kristin, the folks who decorate umbrellas take the contest very seriously - I've never seen someone work so hard for a plaque!

Colleen, my kids are all convinced that they are real royalty because every single one of them has been in the court more than once!  As for hubby, the jury is still out :)

Hey Lisa, yeah, you know how badly I want to be there to enjoy Mardi Gras with you all.  Which reminds me -- I have to get my house decorated for Mardi Gras!!!   I have beads, masks, dinnerware, doubloons, jesters, umbrellas -- I even have a wreath for the front door!  :)  hehe Makes me feel like I'm back home in Louisiana!
