After reading Jason Crouch's post this morning, on recruiting through AR, Twitter & Facebook, I had to agree that he's right... again.
Today's Managing Broker must be the leading edge, and should have a public personna. And what better way to do that... to show that you're leading the agency into the cutting edge of today's technology than to blog? (and of course what better place than Active Rain, where it'll be viewed by a large group of Realtors in your own area?)
I have forwarded Jason's post to my managing broker, and suggested that she might want to consider beginning to blog. My manager is a wonderful individual, personable, smart and calming (and NO, that's not a photo of my manager in this post). She has a revolving door to her office, where she sits and listens all of the office's Prima Donnas (myself included) air their problems, their complaints. She listens to us whine about the marketplace, a lack of sales, or a recent deathmarch of showings. She hears us tell of our personal problems; illnesses, problems with parents, and spouses, difficult children and financial woes, and somehow she manages to not just APPEAR concerned, but she actually manages to BE concerned with each and every one of our little problems.
And yet, she knows that each pecadillo brought up in her office, must be kept private. (I can discuss this with HER, but not with HIM. They know about this, but I can't talk to HER about it.) She compartmentalizes all of the personal information she's heard, and keeps it neat and tidy (not sure how).
And while she's excellent at bringing in experts to our office, and introducing us to new technologies... she carries a blackberry and knows how to use it. She has not yet embraced blogging. Don't get me wrong... she embraces it for ME... she knows I blog, and in fact, would like me to help others in our office learn how to blog. I'd happily teach others to join AR, and blog their little hearts out... I just don't think that she's seen the value in HER blogging. And neither did I, until reading Jason's post this morning.
In fairness, she doesn't have TIME for blogging, what with dealing with all my mental health issues and whining.... er... I mean OUR problems and complaints... But I think that Jason makes a strong case in noting that with proper blogging, she might find herself with some extra time on her hands, as she wouldn't have to recruit as aggressively, and might find a blog doing some passive recruiting for her.
Now, I don't see her as the Twitter-type... and It would a be stretch to find her on Facebook....but I could see her blogging on Active Rain. Time will tell how convincing I am, as I'm forwarding THIS post to her too.
Maybe, in the near future, you can get to know my managing broker too!
