Now that we are well into the 2009 year, there really should not be any surprises. What I mean is the economy is what it is, "markets" are what they are and it's up to all of us to move forward.
You will see from my March Market Update Chart that the number of sales this past month in Canmore is up for the third consecutive month. This is good. As I put together the final pieces for this month's newsletter, I do so with a heavy and saddened heart. I have just returned from the funeral of an acquaintance, business and a former Canmore Rotarian, Bob Schott. Bob passed away last week at the young age of 56. Cancer took another victim. Bob was the co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Outlook newspaper.

SINGLE FAMILY HOME SALE PRICES STILL DOWN - NON SINGLE FAMILY SHOWING GOOD SIGNS
March showed that while the number of single family home sales was double that of February, the median selling price is almost 12% lower than a year ago. The lower number of sales for homes above a million dollars is what is contributing most to this lower median price. There have only been four properties sell above a million dollars in the past four months, and two of these were just barley above the million dollar mark.
