I Fell In Love With My Client - 10/28/08 11:57 PM
I did the unthinkable; I fell in love with my client. It wasn't planned, no blind date jitters, none of my friends elbowing each other under the table. It just happened. Let me explain. Mr. Moran is a charismatic, happy, mannerly, and of course, handsome Drill Instructor for the United States Marines. I met him after he contacted me through email (found me on, yep you guessed, it Active Rain). We corresponded while he was checking out of his station post in Okinawa, Japan. He needed a home, a home very close to Parris Island (Marine Recruit Station). By time he

Should There Be A Localism Jr? - 10/16/08 07:56 AM
Obviously Localism is a outstanding tool for anyone wanting to research an area before relocating, visiting, or just for the curious mind. In dealing with hundreds of buyers in the past, I have learned that children are usually the biggest concern. How will they cope? Will they fit in? What is there for them to do? What do the schools look like? Are there sports teams? And the questions go on and on... Kids today spend more time on the Internet than most adults. Is there a way Localism can have features for kids or possibly a sister site? As an

Do Joe Six Pack And Joe The Plumber Need Joe the Realtor? - 10/15/08 09:35 PM
Who the heck is Joe Six Pack? Has anyone met Joe the Plumber? Well I think we should introduce them both to Joe the Realtor. Joe the Realtor spends most if not all of his day calming the fears of homeowners all around the country. Joe the Realtor researches constantly better health care choices for independent contractors. Joe the Realtor certainly knows the impact of taxes. Don't talk to Joe the Realtor about gas prices. So "my friends" political or not the performance of our chosen candidates makes me want a six pack! I don't care about Joe Debatenight. I want to

You Gave Me My Shoes Back - 10/15/08 09:15 AM
I must say just writing the post brought about tears I didn't know I had. I forget I had a life before real estate. It is nice to know I am not forgotten. So it is another picture perfect, chamber of commerce, get out and walk Beaufort morning. I was running into the Piggly Wiggly for a few things for tonight's girls pumpkin carving pandemonium. I hear a gentlemans voice saying.."Wait, Ms. Crane." Stop the press, I thought. No one calls me Ms. Crane, unless.. In my previous life I was a special education teacher. I worked mainly with high school students

GoodBye 'Great Post' - 10/14/08 03:38 PM
I did it and I admit it. I have read hundreds of heartfelt, informative, educational, and downright fascinating posts. And what did I do? I commented "Great Post". As I was blogging away this morning I realized how impersonal, superficial, and rude I had been. Couldn't I come up with something better than "Great Post". Real Estate Blogs take time, energy, thought, and at times great emotion. All of which are deserving of more than my vague two word comment. I have learned so much from Active Rain. I promise to rid myself of the great post plague. In the future I

Today Will be A Great Day - 10/14/08 06:54 AM
It is a great day in beautiful Beaufort. The sun is already shining through the morning clouds and the egrets are gathering breakfast. The phones are ringing a bit more as of yesterday, that is a wonderful thing! Today I will contact all of my listings to discuss their concerns, I will be supportive, understanding, and encouraging. I do see the light at the end of this very long tunnel. I will contact those hesitant buyers and remind them that they will wish they had purchased when prices were this low. I will check in with my fellow agents who share

Beware The Man Of One Book - 10/13/08 08:06 AM
My title is one of my favorite quotes by Thomas Aquinas. Rainy days are best coupled with a good book, or three. As a former teacher, I truly believe in the value of good books. Matter of fact, a good book can pull ideas as a full moon pulls the tides. Television has never been my preference but lately I find myself immediately tensing up at the simple thought of the daily news. The new tells me how to feel, how to think, it chooses what I see, what I don't and it is consistently telling me who is the true

Good Morning Beaufort SC - 10/10/08 08:09 AM
I stumble out of bed, persuade my best friend to find his way out from under the covers, clumsily push the on button of the coffee maker, and with one eye closed, I open the blinds to greet the day. Jack reminds me that it has been too long since his last trip to the great outdoors potty. I grab my robe along with my trusted flip flops and out we go. It is Friday. What a beautiful Beaufort morning. There are two formidable Blue Heron standing at the edge of one of our saltwater ponds. There are Egrets walking the marsh

The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Buyer - 10/06/08 04:11 PM
As if possible, I went from thirty to three in less than five seconds upon seeing the great possibilities that swirled about while walking through the Pumpkin Patch at one of our local churches. Do I want a pumpkin family, a mischevious pumpkin gang, playful pumpkins, political pumpkins, Oh the choices! Then it occurred to me, I am THAT buyer. The one that gets so excited over the possibilities that knowing exactly what I want is completely impossible. I needed, well I needed ME. I needed a Pumpkin agent to bring me back to reality. Someone to educate me on pumpkin

When Do You Get the Buyer's Agency Signed? - 10/03/08 10:01 AM
It seems there are two schools of thought on this issue. One being the agent who refuses to show anything without it, and the agent who is constantly waiting for the right time. I fall somewhere in the middle. It is difficult for me to request a buyer whom I have just met to sign an agreement to work exclusively with me. Do I have Low REAL ESTEEM? Maybe. I would prefer the buyer having some knowledge and confidence regarding my abilities to represent them professionally in what just may be the most important purchase of their life. It is possible
