no money down: $8000 tax credit as downpayment... HUD says program NOT killed! - 05/21/09 04:58 AM
According to my lender sources and The Arizona Herald article "HUD says bridge-loan program hasn't been killed", HUD is still moving forward with a plan to let first-time homebuyers use the currently available tax credit of up to $8,000 as collateral for "bridge loans" to cover the down payment on FHA insured mortgages.
According to the article, HUD spokesperson Brian Sullivan stated that the program details haven't been finalized and would not say when the bridge-loan program would be initiated, or whether it would be substantially different from what originally was announced.
Let's all keep our fingers crossed that this program will be … (9 comments)

no money down: USDA Rural Development DIRECT Program - New Fiscal Year - 10/03/08 04:20 AM

The new fiscal year for the USDA Rural Development DIRECT loan program began on October 1, 2008.  At this time Congress hasn't appropriated funds to this program, but they expect to receive their first alotment of funds before the end of October.  Unfortunately, the demand for this program is great and funds aren't always available.  For many buyers it can be well worth the wait though!
Buyers should apply as soon as possible to get on the waiting list to receive loan funding, since it takes approximately 30 days to receive a response once you submit your application.  If the buyer is approved they will … (2 comments)
