The much awaited fly fishing season is here! This part of western North Carolina, especially the East Fork River is widely known as a hot spot for anglers. Today the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission reported that it will open approximately 1,100 miles of hatchery-supported trout waters in 25 western counties at 7 a.m. Saturday. The season will run until one-half hour after sunset on Feb. 28, 2012.
Hatchery-supported trout waters are marked by green and white signs and the areas are stocked every year from March through August. Many of the areas are stocked monthly but the heavily fished … (1 comments)

Brevard NC Restaurant Review - 03/11/11 09:43 AM
One of the Clay Team's favorite places to eat in Brevard, NC is The Square Root. It's located in the alley between Main Street and Jordan Street making it a perfect place to pop into for lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is relaxed and the food is totally delicious.
The historic building was once the home of the Transylvania Times newspaper and has been restored with a great touch that exudes a combination of art gallery-loft-restaurant. When you walk in, you'll immediately notice the floor. It is a hand-laid, hand-cut wood parquet floor. Each of the wood tiles were hand … (2 comments)

An Afternoon Spent Trout Farming - 03/09/11 10:53 AM
One of the really great things about being in the real estate business is that no two days are alike. Today we spent the early afternoon hours outside in the cool clean mountain air learning about trout farming at the Cantrell Creek Trout Farm just outside Brevard, North Carolina.  This family owned trout farm has been supplying restaurants, and other business with rainbow and brown trout for years. But, it's for sale now, and we spent the time with the seller and his dog Max learning about the workings of the farm and taking photographs and footage for a promotional video … (3 comments)

Chasing the Cost of Coffee - Lessons in trying to get by in this economy. - 03/05/11 05:23 PM
The world around us seems to be changing on a daily basis and one of the biggest changes is in the grocery store. Prices just keep going up and up. I can do without a lot of things, but food isn't one of them. Call me crazy...I'm just that way.
Luckily, I love to cook because eating out is getting less and less frequent. So when it is time to make a trip to the grocery store, I look for bargains, clip coupons, shop around for large inexpensive cuts of meat that do well in a slow cooker and scout out … (8 comments)

Buying Land in the Brevard and Asheville area - 03/01/11 06:10 PM
The last few weeks have been spring-like here in western North Carolina.  The daffodils are popping up and it's actually been wam enough to play some outdoor tennis. With the worst of winter behind us and the heat of summer still several months away, it's a great time to plan a trip to the mountains to cash in on all the land deals out there. In the last year, properties were selling for roughtly 85% of the list price, but that doesn't take into consideration the huge price adjustments we've been seeing. In addition to getting some great deals, this is … (0 comments)
