Takoma Park, or "Granola Park" as some locals call it now, was the first planned suburban community of Washington, DC.  Founded in 1883, by Benjamin Franklin Gilbert, Takoma Park was developed along a branch of the B & O railroad. One of my favorite authors, Sarah Ban Breathnach lived in this colonial house in Takoma Park, Md.  She lived here from 1980 to 1998.  This is the house where she wrote my all time favorite book - Simple Abundance - a daybook of comfort and joy.  The book was published in 1995 and became a runaway bestseller after Sarah made an appearance on Oprah.I got my, now dog eared, well worn copy of this book in 1998.  This book never ceases to amaze me.  The book is set up as daily meditations, there is a meditation for every day of the … (1 comments)

Goldie Hawn the famous actress and comedian grew up in this quaint and charming circa 1927 Brick Duplex in Takoma Park, Md 20912.  The Hawn Family lived in the Left Side of this duplex.  Goldie's small wedding to John Hudson was in the backyard of this home.  Goldies father Edward Hawn, a musician, died in 1982 and Goldie's mother Laura lived in this home up until 1984, when she sold the house and moved to California, where she died in 1994.  Goldie graduated from the old Blair High School in Silver Spring, Md in 1963 and attended American University in … (18 comments)
