"Family size home..." and other no-nos - 05/15/11 12:17 PM
Reading the MLS updates today I came across this description in the MLS: "Family size home."
This is from an agent and someone with a BROKER's license, and over 10 years of real estate experience.
Does she even know she is probably violating Fair Housing advertising guidelines with this statement?
Who says it's a family sized house? It's 2000 square feet, 4 bedrooms and 2 baths.
What if a bachelor wants this house, or empty nesters?
Watch your advertising words. Choose them carefully. You just never know who could be reading your descriptions -- and what they could read into them.

31 Days of Networking: Don't make it "business" - 05/06/11 09:14 PM
To start off now I'm a day off schedule because I wrote this last night and tried to post it last night ... and the system was so slow or down it wouldn't post. So here I am ... last night's post

You can network without making it "business". How?
Yesterday I was at the office and facebook was open. A business friend/associate posted it was her birthday and tons of comments ensued. Good wishes.
Then at 4:30 she posted that she was going home to watch TV and "wth." Turns out her boyfriend was working and that was her … (14 comments)

Schuylkill HUD Homes: How Much Can You Afford? - 05/05/11 03:38 PM
If you are are interested in buying a HUD Home in Schuylkill County, you need to know how much home you can afford before you start the process.
Here is a great calculator on the Ginnie Mae site, which will estimate how much home you can afford.
You could also talk to one of our lenders we work with, to talk about your particular situation. We have an in-house list of lenders who know how to deal with HUD homes.
Be careful! Not all lenders know how a HUD home mortgage works. It’s NOT like a regular home purchase. We use … (1 comments)

31 Days of Networking: What Goes Around... - 05/02/11 08:21 PM
Here's the first thought you need to understand: building your business on relationships is the BEST way to build your real estate career. Relationships mean friends, family, acquaintenances, past clients, and all the people THOSE people know and can recommend your services to.
You can run all the ads in the world, spend a fortune on marketing, yet a personal recommendation from one person about you and your services is GOLDEN.
Building a business on relationships is not about "how much can you do for me?"
It is all about helping people, connecting people, doing good things WITHOUT expecting a return.

I love that ActiveRain has a ne 31 day blog post challenge. I did the December challenge, and the January one. In January I did 31 days straight of MARKETING posts. My plan for these 31 days is to do NETWORKING posts.
Here we are, Day 1, May Day!
Let's get the basics out of the way. What is networking?
To some of you, it may be a dirty word. Networking = Schmoozing = Begging for Referrals. Maybe you think it's a lot of work or too much time investment.
NOT SO, or at least not how I do "networking."
So … (5 comments)
