There is SO much buzz about environmental friendly-ness in housing it is hard to sort out what matters from what is just 'nice'. One thing is for sure - Builders are leading the way in producing environmentally certified housing - In Seattle a quick scan of our local Multiple List Service shows nearly ALL the available homes (Single Family & Condo) that are either LEED Certified or Built Green (three to five star) are new construction.

WOW - It is official, the Seattle Condo Auctions at Brix and Gallery announced JUST TODAY in The Seattle Times show us the Seattle Condo Market HAS A WAYS TO GO BEFORE BOTTOMING OUT. I was suprised to see these two buildings go in to Auction, especially suprised by Brix. Today the Headline: Strike Continues to Halt Construction is an update. Apparently the Sprinklers Union began striking on Tuesday July 1st, and is now supported by several other Trade Unions. The main issue is the wages and benefits offered to 'apprentice' Union members. Currently Apprentice members start at around $15 an hour, have no health insurance, no sick or vacation pay, and it takes up to FIVE years to become a full Union member.

The Developers of Bellevue Towers and The Bravern must be feeling all wet this morning. And I am not talking about the incredible thunder storms or heavy showers we have been having throughout the Seattle Area over the past 24 hours. Members of the UA Local 699 or 'Sprinkler Fitters Union' have declared a strike after thier original work contract with the developers expired.
Exactly how many sites are affected is not clear, in part because when one trade strikes, other trades support the strike and also don't show up to the job sites. If workers do show up, … (0 comments)
