miscellaneous thoughts from a pike county pa real estate agent: Are You LOSING BUSINESS Because of YOUR BLOG? - 05/28/08 02:51 AM
Or...Put the Shoe on the Other Foot.  Sorry, after I posted this I thought of a better title!
This has been said before, but I'm going to say it again.  I really think we need to be very careful about how we communicate online, because it is very easy to inadvertantly offend existing and future customers with our blogs.
I first became aware of this potential problem when a home stager wrote a blog about her newest client, and she posted before/after pictures.  Her client was LIVID as she was embarrassed to have her "dirty laundry" so to speak posted on … (110 comments)

miscellaneous thoughts from a pike county pa real estate agent: The Poconos are Snow Beautiful - 01/03/08 12:46 AM
On New Year's Eve morning, I had to go to Blooming Grove, as a buyer was interested in a cabin I have listed for sale. The previous evening, about seven to eight inches of snow had fallen over this section of The Poconos, coating everything in sight and softening all the harshness of winter.
Even though I am no fan of winter and cold weather (then why do I live here??!), there is something about new snow that makes winter more tolerable. Though last winter was mild, comparatively speaking, the lack of snow made it depressing, for me at least.

miscellaneous thoughts from a pike county pa real estate agent: Overnight SNOW-sation - 12/01/07 03:28 PM
This show was created a couple of weeks ago and was sent out to my friends and clients in my email circle. I would like to share it here, too, with my blog readers and friends!
Living in Northeast PA, I've learned to become accustomed to the arrival of snow at odd times. One year, we had almost two inches come down the week before Halloween; my husband remembers shoveling his car out sometime in early May. Last year, we never got our first significant snow storm until Valentine's Day.
This year, we had a long, warm Indian Summer - no real … (13 comments)

miscellaneous thoughts from a pike county pa real estate agent: Autumn in The Poconos - 10/30/07 04:51 PM
There is no doubt that autumn is probably my favorite season. I try not to think about what follows autumn, as I relish the crisp days, the earthy smell, the golden light bouncing off the leaves.
It is a time for hot, homemade soup. Fresh baked whole grain bread, drizzled with butter. Spicy herbal tea. Pumpkin spice coffee. Warm apple pie, mulled cider, candy corn.
It is the time when I enjoy listening to classical guitar; when I reach for my frumpy wool sweater and my fuzzy purple socks. I drive the roads of Wayne and Pike County in northeastern PA, and make … (10 comments)

miscellaneous thoughts from a pike county pa real estate agent: Sellers: Do You Know What Your Agents Are Doing? - 10/29/07 07:26 AM
Recently, a colleague told me that she was trying to set up an appointment to show a property to her buyer. The MLS sheet said "Call office for directions." So, my agent friend called the listing office.
Basically, this agent was given the run-around - there was nobody in the office able to give her directions to the property.
When the agent informed the buyer of this strange happening, he decided to call the office himself.  He said to the person who answered the phone: "Hello, this is Jim Buyer, and I saw this property on your website. I would like to drive … (55 comments)

miscellaneous thoughts from a pike county pa real estate agent: Pike County PA - Childs Park - 09/16/07 05:56 PM

One of the most beautiful spots in Pike County, in northeastern Pennsylvania, is Childs Park.

Located in Dingmans Ferry, this scenic spot is part of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Area.
I spent a Sunday afternoon enjoying the waterfalls, hiking the relatively easy trail to the bottom - seeing more and more of the Pocono Mountains' natural beauty each step of the way.
Many other people were enjoying it along with me including a bunch of teenagers, who were breaking the no-swimming rule (but on such a hot day, I don't know who could resist the … (6 comments)

miscellaneous thoughts from a pike county pa real estate agent: Don't Ask, Don't Sell... - 09/10/07 02:50 AM
If You Don't Ask Questions, You Won't Sell Last week, I went on a quest to find a clarinet for my daughter, a beginning band student. Because I am a REALTOR®, I know that renting is basically throwing your money away for little benefit. Sure, I don't have to fork over $250+ up front - but over the course of the school year, I'll have spent nearly that much in rental fees, giving the clarinet-lord money, and I will have what to show for it?
If my daughter decides to switch instruments or quit band, I'll have nothing but a bunch … (49 comments)

miscellaneous thoughts from a pike county pa real estate agent: Light Bulbs Won't Help Dim Bulbs! - 09/06/07 06:09 AM
Got my email version of NAR news today, as many of my fellow REALTORS® did.  In the "Members Only" section of the news, we find a report telling us of an Ohio court case that was settled recently.
It seems that a very astute REALTOR® was showing his buyers a property he was unfamiliar with.  When coming upon a room that was dark, and had no light switch, he made the obvious choice:  step inside and see where it goes!
Instead of the cellar steps he was expecting to step onto, he landed at the bottom of a coal bin.
This is like, right … (27 comments)

miscellaneous thoughts from a pike county pa real estate agent: The GDS Fair is Almost Upon Us! - 08/27/07 03:41 AM
Wow, what a great morning. The sun is shining, the air is a little crisp (too crisp for August, I say! I want it HOT and HUMID! Fall comes soon enough!), the dog got to ride in the van with Daddy, and I'm going to take the family to the GDS Fair on Thursday night!
Jennifer Fivelsdal's blog about the Duchess County Fair made my mouth start watering for funnel cakes, sausage and pepper sandwiches, and cotton candy.
My kids love the rides...the rides make me ill, even to look at them.

Keep the ferris wheel, I want to see the LIVESTOCK. … (7 comments)

miscellaneous thoughts from a pike county pa real estate agent: Off Topic: You Can't Go Home Again - 08/26/07 06:21 PM
First of all, I need to apologize.  It's late and I'm in a rambly, slightly melancholy mood tonight - but this has been churning inside me and I need to get it out.  Remembering that I am but a "pilgrim" and "this world is not my home" helps a little, I am after all a child of the King - but the melancholy sadness for things lost is still there.  Barbara Streisand's song Memory, is a haunting melody of what we've left behind...
Another milestone achieved last week:  my 20th high school reunion.  In the weeks leading up to it, I … (20 comments)
