Washington is filled with museums in every corner of the city. There are museums celebrating different cultures that have contributed to the fabric of the United States. There are art museums displaying sculpture and paintings from every time period that man has lived on earth.  There are museums devoted to industries and careers from spies to doctors and many in between.  There is something in Washington for everyone.

For the last seven years, tourism has increased in Washington DC. In 2015, a total of 21.3 million visitors came to D.C., including around 2 million from overseas, according to Destination DC. The number one country for foreign visitors is China with 300,000 tourists, followed by visitors from the United Kingdom and Germany. Australia, France, India, South Korea, Brazil, Italy and Japan.

This is certainly an unusual way to spend an evening  - a movie at a cemetery - but the volunteers at Congressional Cemetery seem  to know how to throw unusual events! 
Typically the Congressional Cemetery closes at dusk, but on July 18, the grounds will  open at 7:30 and the and there will be a showing of Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest starting at 8:30.   For a contribution of $10, guests are invited to come to the movie and bring their blankets or lawn chairs, picnics and party baskets. I am an Army brat, born to a career Army officer and West Point graduate, and the grand daughter of a career Army officer.  My uncle went to West Point; my aunt married a career Air Force officer. My cousin served in the Air Force and fought in Viet Nam. My husband was an enlisted Marine, and my son served in Iraq as a Marine infantry lieutenant,  My parents, my grand parents, my cousin, my aunt and uncle, and even my husband's daughter in law's father are all buried at Arlington.  I am a military child.

When I was in high school, I worked for the White House Historical Association, selling guidebooks just outside the First Ladies' Garden at the White House and upstairs in the foyer of the White House, just inside the North Portico.
