Realtors Group: Housing Recovery Likely This Year, But Timing Isn't Clear
03/16/2007
WASHINGTON -- Unusual weather patterns and problems in the subprime lending marketplace are creating challenges in assessing housing market conditions, but a recovery is likely this year, according to the latest forecast by the National Association of Realtors.
David Lereah, NAR's chief economist, said there is some ambiguity about the current housing market. "Our goal each month is to fine-tune the forecast based on the latest housing data and a variety of economic indicators, but … (0 comments)

Maine Mortgage Forclosure Rate & Property Tax Refund Information - 03/19/07 10:22 AM
NOTABLE STATISTIC:  The Mortgage Bankers Association reported this week the mortgage foreclosure rate in Maine for the Fourth Quarter 2006 was 4.9%, tied for 21st in the nation with Florida.  Only Rhode Island had a higher foreclosure rate among New England States.  To read the article and see the state chart:  http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/housing/2007-03-13-foreclosures_N.htm#chart
PROPERTY TAX REFUNDS:  Annually, tens of thousands of Maine residents do not apply for partial property tax refunds on their primary residence under the existing Maine "Circuit Breaker" program. To be eligible for the general portion of the program you must have been a resident of Maine for all of 2005, maintained a … (0 comments)

Where is Spring? - 03/19/07 10:16 AM
In Auburn, Maine last week the temperature was reaching the 60 degree mark, and now, after the St. Patrick's Day Nor' Easter, the temps are barely in the 30's. Although everything is beautifully white with virgin snow, the sun still beats down with rays of warmth. The only cure for winter is "mud season" as is noted on the local TV commercial by Tim Sample. It's hard to keep one's mind on real estate when you've had a taste of the warm sunny days and all your mind does is wander, longing for more. Doesn't it remind you of your first love? You know that feeling.. when your heart skips … (0 comments)

Majority of Americans Think Solar Power Should Be Offered on All New Homes - 03/12/07 10:01 AM
Did you know that eighty percent of all people looking for real estate start looking on the internet? It is also interesting to know that eighty percent of survey respondents would like solar systems available on new home construction. Do you think this is the same eighty percent?
This article from RISMEDIA, 2006, reads...Eight out of 10 Americans believe that home builders should offer solar power as an option for all new home construction, according to a recent Roper survey commissioned by Sharp Electronics Corporation. The survey was conducted in May among 1,004 adults to measure their perceptions of solar power.

IN MEMORY: Donald Mckay - 03/09/07 09:51 AM
Today's MAR news came with this sad news.
MAINE ASSOCIATION of REALTORS is sad to report the death of REALTOR Donald McKay (Assist 2 Sell, Falmouth).  He was murdered last weekend, with report of the arrest at this link - http://www.wcsh6.com/news/local/article.aspx?storyid=54033.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 on Saturday, March 10 at Oakdale United Methodist Church in West Boylston, MA.  Our thoughts are with his colleagues and friends.
As I sit here and write, I'm saddened to think about all the atrocities in this society in which we live in. Two other realtors, a mother and daughter, whom were murdered in … (0 comments)

7 Residential Real Estate Market Trends for 2007 - 03/09/07 09:33 AM
I love this article as it is right up my alley. How many of your peers fall into more than one of these key points mentioned below in this article by Debra Pestrak? The key to keeping up is to embrace change because it is going to happen whether you like it or not. Stay on top of what is impacting this market, be willing to adapt new strategies, take advantage of the technologies that will simplify your business, and think about how you can do business with your clients for life.
How are you responding to these changes? What actions do you need … (7 comments)

Top 7 Reasons to Use a Buyer's Agent When Purchasing Your Home
by Eric Bramlett
Purchasing a home is a big step, and a big decision. The average person spends around 1/3 of their income on their home. The home that you choose has a big impact on your life, and can have a big impact on your finances, as well. It always surprises me when Buyers attempt to "go at it alone" because of the possibility of mistakes. A good Buyer's Agent is invaluable to a Buyer, and can be the difference between a wonderful transaction, and a … (1 comments)
