Victoria BC, What is in a Name. Victoria, BC finds it roots in 1843 with the building of a Trading Post by the Hudson Bay Company. However the Trading Post that was to become Victoria was initially called Fort Camosun, after the name given to the inner harbour by the local First Nation People. The Naming for the Trading Post then took a another side step and was called Fort Albert, after Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, by the Chief trader for the Hudson Bay Company (Charles Ross).
