In previous real estate markets they would have been listed as "fixer uppers" and buyers looking for a deal, would snatch them up and make them look new and fresh again. This past week we staged a beautiful downtown loft style condo that was as close to perfection as you can get. This condo truly shows like a model. The owner called us in just to tweak a few things. As much as she hated to remove the family photos, people were missing some of the many special features while looking at the photos. I will be the first to admit that I like vanilla ice cream...but nothing makes vanilla better than a few sprinkles, some hot fudge or some other decatant topping. A few weeks ago I received a request for an unusual staging assignment. Goodwill Industries and Habitat for Humanity was given a generous donation of furniture and other items from the historic Patrick Henry Hotel. The collection included a mixture of antique pieces, art deco pieces, and traditional Thomasville furniture. They wanted Shows Great Home Staging to "stage" several different rooms with furniture from these collections to show potential buyers what they could do with the furniture. The past couple of weeks we have been working on a new staging / redesign project for a client. It is a condo that was stuck in a 1980's time warp and needed to be brought up to date before hitting the market the middle of January. To make matters worse, the condo had been rented for several years and the tenants had pretty much trashed the interior. Ask any stager and they will probably tell you, staging is hard work. This past week I saw just how hard staging can actually be. I spent the entire week without makeup, in old clothes doing hard, physical work. We packed, we cleaned, we removed wallpaper, we painted, changed light fixtures, did landscaping and so much more, but in the end, the results made it all worthwhile. We just finished our latest staging project. In real estate...time is money so we were on a tight schedule to get in and finish the job in 2 weeks. Thanks to the help of a great staging team and subs and we managed to get it done! Yeah!!! This post is a follow up to several blog posts I wrote a week ago about a staging project we were working on that we had to make a few color changes before we could stage with furniture. The home was vacant and although the colors probably worked well with the previous owner's furniture and accessories, now that the home was vacant, the colors were just too dark and strong for most buyers. It has been a busy and productive week at Shows Great Home Staging and Web Solutions. We started the week changing out some interior paint colors and preparing two vacant homes for furniture delivery. Next we de-staged a recently sold listing. Typically our work weeks begin on Monday but this week we got an early start by working on Saturday because we have a full week ahead of us with 2 homes to unstage and 2 (possibly 3) vacant homes to stage. The day started at Lowes at 7:30 picking out paint colors to tone down the bright colors in our current staging project. Another busy week ahead for Shows Great Home Staging. Today we are finishing a huge project that we have been working on for a couple of weeks.
