roanoke home stager: From SAD to SOLD in 3 Days! - 09/18/11 12:45 AM
Some homes just feel sad when you enter them.  Years of neglect have taken their toll.  In previous real estate markets they would have been listed as "fixer uppers" and buyers looking for a deal, would snatch them up and make them look new and fresh again. Now with so many foreclosures on the market, these "fixer uppers" are no longer such a great deal and buyers are passing them over for homes that are "move in ready".
Below are before and after photos of a home we staged recently. It was only on the market 3 days before it received … (16 comments)

roanoke home stager: Even Perfection Can Benefit From A Few Little Tweaks When Selling - 02/05/11 01:10 PM
This past week we staged a beautiful downtown loft style condo that was as close to perfection as you can get.  This condo truly shows like a model.  The owner called us in just to tweak a few things.  As much as she hated to remove the family photos, people were missing some of the many special features while looking at the photos.  We wrapped and packed up personal photos, patched the nail holes, and repainted the black wall, then we hung one piece of art.  Now buyers can concentrate on all this beautiful condo has to offer.  Sometimes even perfection … (23 comments)

roanoke home stager: My First Time... - 01/20/11 11:25 AM
Several months ago I was inspired by a blog post written by Michelle Minch about her first staging experience http://activerain.com/blogsview/1923538/my-first-home-staging-job-2001 .  So today when I am trying to decide what to write about, I decided the best place to start was at the beginning of my staging career.
I started selling real estate after we purchased our first home and the agent that worked with us made it seem so simple and so much fun.  I enjoyed looking at homes. I had a brand new credit card with a zero balance, a little money in my savings account, and a new … (7 comments)

roanoke home stager: When Plain Vanilla Just Won't Do... - 03/05/10 11:15 PM
I will be the first to admit that I like vanilla ice cream...but nothing makes vanilla better than a few sprinkles, some hot fudge or some other decatant topping.  This week we staged a plain vanilla townhome and turned it in to a yummy ice cream sunday.  We added a few sprinkles of color here and there and now it pops with color and personality.  Below are a few of the mls photos before we staged and then the new photos we took after staging:

roanoke home stager: Before and After Extreme Staging Photos - 01/27/10 01:01 PM
Extreme Staging...that is a new term I have given some of our recent staging projects.  These projects have required a lot more than just decluttering and adding some new furniture and accessories. These projects have required that we determine what can be done to help the sellers realize the most money for their property in the least amount of time...maximizing their profits in an challenging market. Below are some before and after photos of our latest Extreme Staging Project.  The photos speak for themselves.

roanoke home stager: Promoting Your Staging Business While Giving Back To The Community - 01/23/10 10:09 PM
A few weeks ago I received a request for an unusual staging assignment.  Goodwill Industries and Habitat for Humanity was given a generous donation of furniture and other items from the historic Patrick Henry Hotel.  The collection included a mixture of antique pieces, art deco pieces, and traditional Thomasville furniture. They wanted Shows Great Home Staging to "stage" several different rooms with furniture from these collections to show potential buyers what they could do with the furniture.  They also wanted us to take a few pieces and "transform" them and give them a new look so buyers could see what could … (17 comments)

roanoke home stager: A Sneak Peek at Extreme Staging Project / Redesign Project - 01/10/10 01:14 AM
The past couple of weeks we have been working on a new staging / redesign project for a client.  It is a condo that was stuck in a 1980's time warp and needed to be brought up to date before hitting the market the middle of January.  To make matters worse, the condo had been rented for several years and the tenants had pretty much trashed the interior.
Living Room Before:Living Room After:The window treatments, curtains and wallpaper have been removed.  The walls were painted with a Sherwin Williams Latte to tone down the peach tones in the ceramic tile around … (12 comments)

roanoke home stager: Can Somebody Please Tell Me Where I Left My Fairy Dust? - 10/16/09 02:09 PM

Ask any stager and they will probably tell you, staging is hard work. This past week I saw just how hard staging can actually be. I spent the entire week without makeup, in old clothes doing hard, physical work.  We packed, we cleaned, we removed wallpaper, we painted, changed light fixtures, did landscaping and so much more, but in the end, the results made it all worthwhile.  Especially when the owner called me her "fairy godmother".  You see, the present owner had lived in this home for over 49 years and now it was time to get this home on the market and do … (11 comments)

roanoke home stager: 14 Days...Amazing Results...Lots of Before and After Pictures... - 09/08/09 10:41 AM
We just finished our latest staging project.  In real estate...time is money so we were on a tight schedule to get in and finish the job in 2 weeks.  Thanks to the help of a great staging team and subs and we managed to get it done! Yeah!!!
Take a look at some of the before and afters:The Kitchen was dark due to the dark cabinets, black range and refrigerator, and black counter tops.  It also appeared cluttered and small when it was well laid out and offered a great work space.  The hardwood floors were showing lots of wear.  We had … (19 comments)

roanoke home stager: Before and After Photos - When Color Changes Everything - 08/08/09 12:07 AM
This post is a follow up to several blog posts I wrote a week ago about a staging project we were working on that we had to make a few color changes before we could stage with furniture.  The home was vacant and although the colors probably worked well with the previous owner's furniture and accessories, now that the home was vacant, the colors were just too dark and strong for most buyers. Living Room Before was a dark tan with a golden tone and even the ceiling was painted the same color. The stairwell was a deep burgandy and even the ceiling was painted that color … (18 comments)

It has been a busy and productive week at Shows Great Home Staging and Web Solutions.  We started the week changing out some interior paint colors and preparing two vacant homes for furniture delivery.  Next we de-staged a recently sold listing.  (It has previously been on the market over a year and went under contract only 45 days after staging) yippee!!!  We moved that furniture to our new staging project and the rest into the warehouse for the staging projects coming up on Monday.
All in all it was a very productive week.  We completed new two staging projects.  Completed 4 staging … (5 comments)

roanoke home stager: Day 1 - Toning Down Paint Colors For Broader Market Appeal - 07/26/09 09:33 AM
Typically our work weeks begin on Monday but this week we got an early start by working on Saturday  because we have a full week ahead of us with 2 homes to unstage and 2 (possibly 3) vacant homes to stage. The day started at Lowes at 7:30 picking out paint colors to tone down the bright colors in our current staging project.  I decided on a soft beige for the Living Room and Dining Room, trimmed out in white.  We will use a lighter color up the stairway to lighten the dark stairwell.

roanoke home stager: When Art Sets The Stage To Sell... - 05/06/09 09:38 PM
I just recently completed a staging project on a vacant home in one of Roanoke's favorite older neighborhoods.  A neighborhood that is attracting a lot of young, first time home buyers. We were staging on a limited budget but I felt the need to add some pop and color to this 1920's style home. To appeal to the younger market I decided to update this home with new, colorful, contemporary art.  Below are a few photos:      Colorful, contempary artwork can update the look of any home.  Call a professional stager when you are ready to sell your vacant home.

Another busy week ahead for Shows Great Home Staging.  Today we are finishing a huge project that we have been working on for a couple of weeks.  It involves lots of painting, cleaning, and staging with furniture and accessories.  It is a 2.5 million dollar horse estate.  Photos will follow later this week.We are also working on 2 vacant staging projects.  A great brick ranch that is being sold by two investors that I have had the pleasure of working with many times in the past few months.  We are also working on a beautiful new condo conversion in Historic Old SW.  Photos … (0 comments)
