texas: If I'm Arrested For Indecent Exposure... - 08/26/12 01:54 PM
You know that school has started!
I have joked that when all three of my kids are finally on the bus to school, I will run down my street naked.
But until that day comes, this is your friendly reminder that in Highland Village along with most of Texas, school does start tomorrow!
Fresh-faced little ones with new backpacks, pretty ponytails and sparkling clean shoes will be at bus stops and crosswalks all over our neighborhoods.

Remember that it is AGAINST THE LAW to hold your cell phone in school zones.  Even if you are tempted to shoot a video … (3 comments)

texas: A Sign Of Our Times in Highland Village, TX - 03/27/12 06:26 AM
Inventory is low.
I have two clients under contract that need a house and we've scoured the streets.  I've searched expired, cancelled and withdrawn listings with no luck.
Here in Highland Village, it's turned into a seller's market.  Price your home well and be in good shape, it's gone before it even hits the MLS.  I had one recently where an agent lived two doors down and had two showings before the house was officially listed.  After that, we had 13 showings in four days and two offers with another that would have written one.
With that being said, … (2 comments)

texas: A Place To Put The Mess - 03/24/12 02:17 PM
As a dog walker and resident of Castlewood in Highland Village, Texas, I make sure to do the common courtesy and right thing of picking up the mess my dog leaves behind.  The worst part is walking around with a stink in my stroller that didn't come from my young one.
I sent an email to our community manager asking if the Board would consider purchasing some pet waste stations similar to the one seen here.  This was really brought on by seeing bags left all over the trails instead of being properly disposed.

I was pretty excited (kinda … (5 comments)

texas: My City is Safer Than Yours! - 12/09/11 04:44 PM

With little hoodlums like this one behind bars, it's no wonder that my city is safer than yours.  Well, at least in Texas!
For the past nine years, Highland Village has been named the "Safest City in North Texas" and was this year announced it once again received that honor based on information provided by the FBI's 2010 Uniform Crime Report.
The difference this year is that Highland Village as now voted as the Safest City in TEXAS with population over 10,000 and less than 100,000.  Our humble little city has 17,496 people and reported only three violent crimes and … (8 comments)

texas: New Texas Homestead Laws - 09/02/11 04:39 PM

(AUSTIN) — Under a law passed by the Texas Legislature homeowners who apply for a new property tax homestead exemption beginning Sept. 1 must provide proof to the county appraisal district that they live in the house they claim as their principal residence.
House Bill 252 requires a copy of the homeowner’s Texas driver’s license or state identification card and the homeowner’s vehicle registration receipt be sent with the homestead exemption application. If the homeowner does not own a vehicle they can send a current utility bill showing name and address, along with an affidavit provided in the application indicating … (1 comments)

texas: My Top 10 List For The Past Four Days of Ice/Snow Days - 02/04/11 07:37 AM
Can you believe this weather?  I really feel for the Packers and Steelers fans who may have been looking forward to some Southern hospitality in the rays of sunshine and warmth.  It is colder in Dallas than Alaska!  Who would have known?!
I do also feel sorry for us poor saps who were walking and doing yard work a week ago in 74 degrees.  What a difference a few days makes!  I am glad that I ended up going to the store and loading up on basic provisions but the rationing did start yesterday on things like fresh fruit.
While having … (6 comments)

texas: The End of an Era - 01/26/11 07:57 AM

Here I stand on the steps that I have stood on so many times before throughout my life.  I was never six months pregnant (that may have been the LAST time on my household steps!), but i was in Halloween costumes, prom dresses and playing games.
This past weekend, I went to California to help my parents get things packed up as they leave the only true home they've known in their adult life.  They bought this home in 1972 and after 39 years, are retiring to Texas.
With the average family moving every five to seven years, it's … (6 comments)

texas: I Wish I Knew Now What I Didn't Know Then - 08/30/10 04:56 AM

Labor Day marks the six year anniversary moving into our custom home in Highland Village, TX.  It was the process of selling our home and building our current one that inspired me to follow a career in real estate.
It was a whirlwind decision but one we knew was right.  We have fantastic neighbors, wonderful community amenities and great schools to boot.
One of the things that buyers overlook when building a home is the value of a real estate agent.  Even though we had a real estate agent she pretty much stayed out of anything after our contract was … (3 comments)

texas: Texas Tax-Free Weekend! - 08/21/10 05:22 AM
It's that time of year again!
Time to load up on your back-to-school gear and save money while you do it.
Wait, what?  Save money?
For the 12th year, Texans get a tax break on purchases up to $100 related to back-to-school such as backpacks, school supplies and clothing.
The feelings are mixed on this weekend.  Some say that there is NO WAY you are getting me into the madhouse this weekend while others look forward to saving a little extra cash on necessities.
However you feel about it, it's a nice perk the State has offered. … (2 comments)
