going green: It Doesn't Take a Lot - Easy Ways to Help the Environment

Many people I know have expressed interest in reducing their impact on the Earth. But most bemoan the fact that doing anything significant seems to require a large chunk of change. Who has thousands laying around for solar panels and new efficient cars?
The fact is that there are a lot of little things that you can do, with very little capital outlay. Some even end up saving you money, and some are simply free! While they don't seem huge, think of how big an impact it would be if 100 people did these little things? What about 1000 (1 comments)
As expected, buyers are starting to demand green features and energy efficiency in their homes. We've been expecting it for a while now, but I finally got my proof this last month. The 3rd buyer in a row that combed over the efficiency ratings of the HVAC and water heater systems while deciding their homes. While I've occasionally had someone concerned with those items, it's a change having 3 different buyers all in a row who have made it not just the usual "Oh how nice, an efficient (0 comments)
Most folks aren't aware, and hey I wasn't really either until recently, but part of the Clean Air Act of 1990and Montreal Protocol of 1996 addresses the eventual phase-out of HFCF-22 or R-22, also commonly called freon.
Sound familiar? Yeah, that freon, the stuff that runs our cooling systems and keeps us from going bananas in these hot Kansas days!
Before you lose your cool (ha ha!), they are obviously replacing Freon with something else - called R410A, which goes under trade names such as Puron, Forane 410A, Genetron (2 comments)
