How fast can you walk a mile? I know that at one time I could run a mile in less than 6 minutes. When I ran the Marine Corps Marathon, I averaged a bit over 11 minutes for 26.2 consecutive miles. The average healthy person should be able to walk a mile in 20 minutes or less. Depending upon who you ask, a mile takes anywhere from 1750 to 2250 strides.
Why all this discussion about distance? Many people looking for homes in Northern Virginia want to live near the Metro for ease of commuting and access to their jobs in Washington D.C., nightlife, restaurants, the airport, etc. North Arlington is one of the best places in the region for availability of housing near a Metro stop.
Five metro stops service North Arlington: Rosslyn, Courthouse, Clarendon, Virginia Square, and Ballston. There are currently 326 homes for sale including single family homes, townhouses, and condominiums within 1 mile radiuses around each of these Metro stops on the Orange Line.
75%, or 245 of these homes are within 1/2 mile of a Metro stop -- that's less than 1000 steps away, or a relatively easy 10 minute walk. Who needs a car?
Here's an extensive list of condominium complexes that are within 1/2 mile of a Metro stop:
