We had a Board of Realtors meeting Wednesday evening . After our speaker finished his talk, one of the Realtors ask for the floor.. Her voice was shaky, she was overwhelmed with emotion, as she ask us to help support the fundraiser spaghetti dinner at a local church. The little boy is battling kidney disease and in very serious condition . The family is waiting for a donor. Sadness and silence gripped the room . .
Four days earlier......on.....
Sunday at my church, The church youth group sponsored a spaghetti dinner for a little boy who had recently had brain surgery and now continues chemo therapy . As I stood outside talking with the couple who work on the church grounds, they pointed out the mom and dad and four children all under eight ( 8 month old baby in arms) as they left the church hall. It was the family with the little cancer patient. He was so pale , yet the family attended church together this Sunday morning. I attend a rather large church and didn't know the family. My heart ache and twisted as I watched that young family burden with such a heavy cross walk toward their car.
Why on thankful Thursday would I blog about two most difficult, sad stories?....
as I mentioned to the friends I stood talking with..
" AND WE THINK WE HAVE PROBLEMS.".... there is always someone else who has bigger problems....
These two families stand as inspiration to all who hear their stories, their strength can only come from a higher power.
They light a spark within us with their courage . The spark ignites gratitude and thanksgiving in our own lives.
Thanksgiving for life itself., for our families, for health, for every little thing. We need to stop...hug our kids...smell the roses...and GIVE THANKS.
We embrace the suffering, we pray and help in whatever way we can , we try to ease the burden of their cross and we ..... thank .them ....... for reminding us to appreciate the blessings we have.
This quote from Albert Schweitzer works both ways...here's to the hope that the suffering will see the rekindle of light in them, through us, because we know what they have done by their sacrifice for us.
At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.
