Is it business or friends??

The business of real estate is about relationships..right. I'm sure a lot of agents out there are just like me..hungry for more business. How does that happen...more relationships. When you work in an office you see people everyday, your competition that is, you meet their family hear about goods and bads business and personal. That is just the way people are. But what do you do when your friend, your competition, your co-worker, looses a major project. Do you turn on your competitive side and go after the carrot hanging in front of you, or do you turn on the friend side and walk. For some of us that is a tough call, for others not so much. I am a FIRM believer of what goes around comes around and treat others as you would want to be treated. BUT I am also a single mom with a hungry son at home.

This is a time for some of us when we have to step back and say what is the smartest thing for me to do right now? Weigh all sides of the equation and listen to all sides of the story...THEN put the best foot forward. After all at the end of the day all I have is me (& my son).

I believe that your post is both thought provoking and real at the same time.  I have and continue to walk in your shoes.  I have a wife and two kids and as the head of he house hold I have to create a winning game plan every day.  When my last son was born I decided to take control over my future in this business.  As a mortgage lender I came to realize some of the truths you mention.  Right now business is slow.  What I did was to create a business plan that spelled out to me who I was and what it is I want to accomplish in life.  This plan has pulled me in a direction that I would like to go, albiet sometimes I went kicking and screaming.  But the idea is simple, we are the CEO's of our own business, we get paid what we are worth, and to accomplish our goals we must continually work to profect our craft.  I truely believe that this is how we seperate ourselves from the competition (and people in our office).  We move by our beliefs and our belief system when properly introduced into the market will generate the kind of people, who like ourselves, want to do business the way we do it.
