Newton North Carolina -  2009 Soldiers Reunion

The Old Soldiers Reunion, or as it's been called since 1930, The Soldiers Reunion, is one of the longest running events of its kind in the United States.

Almost every year since 1889, during the third week in August, veterans gather together for a week of celebration. There are only two years during which the event was not held, 1944 and 1948, due to polio outbreaks.

For those of you who have never been, or are new to the area. The reunion will be held, as always, at the old courthouse square in downtown Newton, North Carolina.

The 120th Annual Soldiers Reunion is sponsored by the American Legion Post 16 and the Newton Merchants Association. Additional activities are sponsored by the Newton Parks & Recreation Department.
